Anyway, now I know what a used tear gas canister looks like, up close. (Thankfully it had all dissipated by the time I got there)

This appears to be the tear gas deployed that was mentioned in this community alert earlier. ICE all over Albany Park this morning.
Location: Kedzie and Wilson, sawyer and sunny side, sawyer and Wilson

Agents detained one person at sawyer and Wilson, and tear gas has been deployed nearby. About 20 agents present in multiple vehicles including plate #s913460

On here is good – for the 38 & up & already paying attention crowd. And I figure YouTube will fall eventually. Bots, I honestly don't know if that'd work 🤷‍♂️

Huh: TikTok took down my 8-second video featuring this image of Debbie Brockman — the news producer just detained by Trump’s CBP agents — saying it violates the “joy of TikTok”

I can vouch that this is this accurate. I got there after the goons fled but joined the crowd milling. I heard people talking with cops (who were pleasant, FWIW) and lawyers. Graciela & Rossana were on the scene.

Everyone in IL who thinks what the State Police are doing to protect ICE and violate the 1A rights of protesters needs to be calling JB’s office daily. Also call your state reps and senators and ask them to put pressure on JB to stand up for the right to protest.

the hypothesis that electeds have no real control of police forces nominally under their authority ought to be put to the test by Pritzker. he doesn't even have to get out into the street for that

But this actually suggests an answer to another question I'd had which is why ic e agents don't arrest more citizens for interfering with their work, which they're allowed to do. It could be because, to get anywhere with criminal charges, they'd have to sign affidavits, with their names.

It’s weird that the Chicago Tribune never ran a feature story on the South Shore apartment building raid…right? It’s mentioned in an article about warrantless arrests and that awful editorial about how we’re all overreacting. But no stories. Every other Chicago news outlet covered it. Why is this?

In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”
Members of the force's sports squad, responsible
- among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.
After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access.
Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said.
Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs". There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said.
A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.
"The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there."
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

But she was endorsed by current U.S. regime leader earlier this year, that says it all.

I expect that “should the troops get paid” is something most Americans would support if you polled it without any context.

The average American doesn’t give a shit how something happens, they just want good things to happen, however they define that.

Elected Dems haven’t adjusted to that reality.

The reason I say getting the troops paid is good for Trump’s brand is that I think one of the most valuable lessons of Trump 2 is that people only care about the result, not the legality of a given action.

Is illegally moving a bunch of money around to pay the troops good for Trump’s brand? Probably. Will it keep the government shut down even longer? Almost certainly.

What’s especially galling about these many of the CDC firings is these are technical positions, not political ones, yet there has been (and won’t be) any policy-based explanation, even a nonsensical one, from Kennedy et alia as to why they were fired. Impeach Kennedy. Impeach him now.

RIF notices also sent to the CDC’s 2023 and 2024 class of civilian EIS officers known as its main disease detectives, per sources. These are the people who are typically the first responders in an outbreak. 4/4
