Rep. Jim Himes on Trump blowing up boats in the Caribbean: "The White House has not shared what they believe their legal justification is. They did put out a memo. I will tell you based on what I know now and the reading of that memo, these are illegal killings."

quite a take from someone who called COVID restrictions "fascism" and "a violation of constitutional rights," and argued that SEC penalties for announcing a fake leveraged buyout of Tesla trampled on his first amendment free speech protections

The MTG Test is basically a test of someone's threshold tolerance for antisemitism; we are once again learning how many people are totally cool with someone being a vicious ideological antisemite.

the only ethical use case for GenAI is creating a parallel internet stocked with infinite varieties of sycophantic agents where our oligarchs can run free, secure in the knowledge that everyone loves them and blissfully ignorant of the existence of an actual internet that nobody tells them about

I hate how accurate this is

In the 2010s, this country's elites were thrown onto social platforms with everyone else and could finally read what we all think about them and it caused them so much psychic damage that they decided to destroy both the internet and democracy to make sure nothing like it ever happened again.

I'm laughing out loud because, *twenty years ago*, a friend in robotics told me that showing off a dancing robot is what you do when your robot sucks, and a *group* of them even more so.

Listen to the response to this and look how easy it is to say it.

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

It really is amazing how Sally Jenkins shows up here every few weeks and demonstrates her factual ignorance. You could set a clock to it.

She knows how to sell a product, but that product is not "news"

She's not afraid to take on a mob, but that "mob" is "most Americans who are not billionaires she constantly flatters"

She's an entrepreneur, if that's a synonym for grifter.

Imagine being "amazed" at the hostile reaction to all that

This is really smart. Amazed at the hysteria over the ascendance of a woman entrepreneur who clearly knows how to cover and sell news and who's not afraid to take on a mob. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Really just giving the game away. There is no legal logic to what they are doing and they never want it to apply to any future Dem president but they need to give Trump whatever he wants.

This is good, from Hakeem Jeffries. More of this please, in every conceivable forum:

"Sycophants who aid and abet the President’s vengeful schemes will not be able to hide from the serious legal consequences of their behavior. They will be held accountable."

So the idea that this guy has never tried to punish people who don’t conform to his religious ideas of what’s acceptable is contradicted by his history. And a campaign of harassment against a person who wrote something on their private social media page that he found rude is not a both sides story

This is an editorial choice by the NYT.

I was furious at the "both sides" headline the Times ran about how there's a debate over whether Portland is a burning hellscape. The Times has reporters there, they know full well that it isn't. The story is that Trump is lying to justify military occupation.

I was trying to put my finger on what bothered me about this portrayal and I think it’s that it just takes the guy’s words at face value, like he was a nice guy and reaction to Charlie Kirk’s death just pushed him over the edge www.nytimes.com/2025/10/12/u...

Sens. Schumer, Merkley, Murray, and Peters are calling for the resignation of OMB Director Russell Vought.

"By impounding billions of dollars … and aggressively pursuing the illegal use of pocket rescissions, Vought has done everything in his power to gut the federal government piece by piece."

While it's unclear who has been unfired, this is the kind of decision that should require policy justification (even if specious). It's the difference between removing the leadership of the 1st Armor Div. and discharging all of the soldiers while also leaving the equipment to rust.

What’s especially galling about these many of the CDC firings is these are technical positions, not political ones, yet there has been (and won’t be) any policy-based explanation, even a nonsensical one, from Kennedy et alia as to why they were fired. Impeach Kennedy. Impeach him now.

RIF notices also sent to the CDC’s 2023 and 2024 class of civilian EIS officers known as its main disease detectives, per sources. These are the people who are typically the first responders in an outbreak. 4/4

VANCE: The govt shutdown inevitably leads to some chaos. It happened because of Schumer
