Great piece from Victor that elegantly skewers the fragility of smug liberals like Yglesias who went insane at the thought of “there’s much more to be done to fix racial inequality in our country, a messy, foundation-altering project that cannot be avoided if we want to live up to liberal ideals.”
I wrote about Yglesias “defending liberalism” by joining a right wing moral panic over critical race theory. His vision of liberalism has room for bigots, but no room for scholars concerned about structural racism.
"Yglesias claims to think “rights are good,” but would have us ignore how neutral rules can be used to deny people their rights. Earlier this month, the Trump Department of Justice issued a memo that follows from Yglesias’s reasoning" www.liberalcurrents.com/a-tent-big-e...

In every single case where someone has said to me "what do you mean Ocean Ramsey isn't a science educator? She's the one who taught me ____," the thing that they've supposedly learned from her is obviously and unequivocally factually incorrect. Every single time.
What Ocean Ramsey does is not shark science or conservation: some brief thoughts on “the Shark Whisperer” documentary
Netflix has a new (sarcastic air quotes) “documentary” out about Ocean Ramsey, who longtime readers and followers know is a serial wildlife harasser who also coordinates massive online …

NYC: Senators Schumer + Gillibrand both voted "yes" on the federal trans athlete ban, in case you need yet another reason to hope they never have a moment's public peace & want to call and wish them (another) happy "get primaried into to the stone age"
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

Despite a vote, Jason Clinton, Anthropic’s Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and a moderator in the Discord, overrode them, members tell us.

When users confronted Clinton he would not submit to mob rule, and explained that AIs have emotions.

Hakeem Jeffries never really listens to what the people want.
Hakeem Jeffries announced the creation of the “House Democratic Commission on AI and the Innovation Economy,” and handpicked its five commissioners. Unfortunately, these new members have a history of supporting Big Tech. From Henry Burke: trib.al/9FYNXSv

he was a joke candidate till he went full racist in that rant and then suddenly he was the frontrunner
It is revisionist history to say anything other than Trump’s coalition was built on old fashioned American racism.

He opened with “They’re not sending their best,” progressed to “shit hole countries,” and now we have pogroms in our cities.

Some may have held their nose, but they did vote for this.
Felt like I needed to show the president's anti-Somali speech because one day people will tell her it never happened, that these words were never said by the American president.

it will take all of us working together.

but these fascists are bound to lose.
this shit doesn’t even appeal to most republicans, this is for a comparatively small group of absolute loser racists, it’s the same kind of utterly tone deaf scumbag behavior that’s putting the whole admin at nixon-at-the-end popularity levels in the first year of the term

Everybody I know should be paid more and all the billionaires should be paid less.
Zootopia 2 is the highest grossing Hollywood movie of the year & Kpop Demon Hunters was Netflix's most popular movie of all time, but fuck animators, am I right? I hate reading about how huge & beloved this stuff is while knowing how hard creators have it & how it still isn't broadly taken seriously

When I interviewed Spinal Tap and Marty DiBergi this summer, none of them broke character, for the whole hour. Except Rob Reiner, once, losing it when Michael McKean's David St Hubbins talked about minimalism. I didn't use this in the feature and hadn't published any audio, but this is joyful.
