NORMAL MEN HOUSEKEEPING NOTE

We're doing some stuff behind the scenes, but it shouldn't impact your feed. If you have any issues accessing episodes, let us know. You shouldn't have to re-subscribe or anything, but if you need to here's the link.

New ep should be out as usual middle of next week.
Normal Men Podcast | Free Listening on Podbean App
Normal Men is four guys talking about the news. We want to help explain what's happening in the world around us and have some laughs along the way. And we think

right lol, it's wild to me people think this is not the case!
peark.es
Not at all lol. I am not saying Europeans should have the same memetic context as the US. I'm just noting a trend, not endorsing or condemning or judging it?
peark.es
tbc I am not saying nobody should wear Carhartt, I definitely am not even implying that.
peark.es
That is basically what I'm saying yes.

Jael lmfao wow

There's a whole nexus of parasocial attachment to any big account that is worth critiquing, albeit with nuance. I just tend to lump thirst traps into a very different category from other stuff that drives it.

Like minds may disagree, just my take on it
peark.es
Yes, there are things in common. But seeking validation of physical appearance (especially a woman in a deeply misogynist society) shouldn't be used as an angle of attack for seeking validation for everything one does IMO.

There is a form to make known how you feel about MLS using AI for recaps. It takes two seconds and has a section where you can let them know in your own words why you’re opposed to the league using any form of AI.

What is with the continued insistence that Weiss has ever covered “news,” she was an op-ed writer who started a website for opinion pieces. You are just objectively making stuff up.

This is really smart. Amazed at the hysteria over the ascendance of a woman entrepreneur who clearly knows how to cover and sell news and who's not afraid to take on a mob. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

I guess what I'm saying is I agree vent-posting can be problematic but I think we (the three people in the thread to this point, who are all AFAICT middle aged white dudes) using "thirst trap" posts as a thing we're getting mad at.
peark.es
I think there's a big difference between posting thirst traps to get a quick hit of validation and doomposting tho? Like these two activities have a very different set of underlying causes and externalities?

I like how everyone replying to this is ignoring the fact that I used three different brands in three different contexts lol

also in the US!
peark.es
huh! I'm not a vintage guy so would never have known this but good to hear.
peark.es
Right this is what I'm speaking too as interesting! I own Carhartt stuff, it's fine!
peark.es
exactly. there are a lot more of the one kind in terms of numbers.
peark.es
Subcultures may be appropriating but the vast majority of the people that wear Carhartt in the states are heavily conservative-coded. I'm speaking in general valence terms not "anyone wearing Carhartt is conservative". It's true of any brand you buy at Tractor Supply lol.
nwraised87.bsky.social
Carhartt is not conservative coded at all. Well, maybe to those not paying attention to fashion trends
peark.es
Funny trend I’m seeing on this trip: US brands coded as conservative being sold as chic over here. A Cabela’s hunting shirt being hawked at a Porto streetware thrift stall. A Stetson outlet in Chiado, Lisbon. All sorts of Carhartt logos, again as a fashion statement. It’s fascinating!

I think bar associations really have a role to play in this revolting state of affairs. The arguments are in such blatant bad faith, the people making them should be shunned by their peers.

The case against Comey is beyond weak. The case against James is worse. It is based on a lie, and they know they're lying because exculpatory evidence that contradicts the indictment had already been presented to a grand jury in another jurisdiction. Everyone involved with this needs to be disbarred

Unfortunately we don’t - also intentionally didn’t bring a car seat for the two year old.
