I didn’t like Kamala’s lack of support for ending the genocide in Gaza when she was VP and a candidate for POTUS. But she is not the President. She has fuck all to do with what’s happening in Gaza right now. Protesting her book tour is a stupid waste of energy. There are other things happening!

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”

First of all, whether people like it or not, those ppl are members of the community. Second, that is actually the job of law enforcement. Third, we DO have violence prevention teams that help but they are chronically underfunded. It’s an entirely different situation.

You aren’t the only one - the original posting of the video did say it was in the pick up line. But it was posted by people not in Chicago so they didn’t know the context. I just like to make sure to flag incorrect info when I see it.

There are lots of mutual aid groups in our area and in Chicago generally. We’re expanding them all the time - especially right now.

As Tedra said - that is happening and it’s being coordinated by parent groups and organizers. My sister in law walked some kids home today. I was part of a group standing on a street checking the cars and watching for federal agents. There’s lots to do!

Everyone is traumatized - even people like me who aren’t being targeted. People we care about are terrified. Having armed, unidentified goons scouring your neighborhood for people to grab. It’s something I never imagined happening in this country.

It is traumatizing a lot of innocent people. What everyone needs to understand is Kristi Noem is lying. They are not just targeting violent criminals. They are grabbing people off the street. They are taking anyone they can without regard to their status. It’s horrifying.
