Yeah. Most people with an "authoritarian-follower" mindset gravitate right just because conservatism offers a lot of hooks for a Leader to hang their desires on, but there's nothing really preventing leftists from wanting to somehow elect a progressive tyrant. Tankies exist, after all.

Shoulda been a "Press X to Jason 1000 times" achievement.

This rings true, because it's fundamentally an authoritarian mindset rather than a democratic one to declare the correct course of action is "just do the perfect thing and force it until it happens".

I seem to recall several people ANECDOTALLY claiming that claims they'd been fighting with UHC were abruptly resolved in their favor after the shooting, but that's no evidence of anything at all aside from the arbitrariness of insurance claim processes.

That's the type of leftist who doesn't like it ANYWHERE because being a miserable git is praxis, don't you know, how dare you enjoy ANYTHING before we achieve utopia?

It's been my observation that "War on Christmas" rhetoric rises in parallel with the perception that religious minorities are being given more of a platform/visibility. As such, it tends to ebb during administrations that are ostentatiously Christian-right.

The ceiling is not just an economic reality, it is a vital part of reserving enough power to the non-greedy such that the floor continues to be maintained.

Some of them seem to think it's possible that the ceiling will be implicit, except the strong floor will only last until there are exactly two classes of people: "those stuck to the floor by the billionaires" and "the billionaires, who will then demolish the floor".

Poverty is always relative to where you are and how much it costs to live there.

When I moved between two first world countries, I took a pay cut of nearly 40% and my effective standard of living was still better.

There are places you cannot support a family of four on a low six figure income.

And to kind of expand on this, I'm not even opposed to part of the message being "if one must have corporations, the right people to be in charge of them are the people who have a passion for the product and not for the money being made".

The book (look, you can't be picky when you're waiting unexpectedly in an airport for a hours-delayed flight at 1AM) at least carried the sense of "we must protect our escapism from being taken over by the late-stage-capitalism oligarchs" (even if the "solution" was "find the RIGHT oligarchs").

I honestly find myself wondering if this is the scientific basis behind turning your pillow over repeatedly to try to sleep on the cold side.
