Sorry this took so long, but I finally got the doc I prepared for my friend up on Google Docs. It is a deliberately short Long Covid On Ramp for folks just discovering they are sick and wondering what to do next. Thanks to all who contributed! docs.google.com/document/d/1...
I have very few good memories of my undergrad years, but one of them is listening to A Child’s Christmas in Wales for the first time performed by two brilliant Irish classmates. Thank you for the reminder @annelouiseavery.bsky.social. youtu.be/SDdEvkQf9ko?...

When I wake up in the middle of the night and look out the window to see everything enveloped in mist and fog it gives me the same feeling I had as a child waking up in the night to unexpected snow.

Our current medical establishment were over partisan actors for years.

They stoked anger and rage about any effort to limit covid, radicalizing many.

They appealed to emotions and anger under the ruse of being neutral scientists.

Walker is right about their covid myths.

Listening to a pretty great fiction podcast about sexy vampires in Toronto who run a detective agency (Woodbine) that comes with several truly loathsome ads (I know, I know but you guys I already belong to SO many Patreons) the most loathsome of which is for a true crime podcast called Crime Salad.

San Francisco wants to build social housing to make housing for all a reality, and the City needs a plan to get there. So we issued an RFP to develop one! Hope this reaches even one or two more people who could answer the RFP who wouldn't have seen this otherwise.

Including AI annotators, and particularly where billion dollar ventures seek out this labor, was always part of The Control Problem. My first draft of those scenes is dated June 2016.
Flock accidentally exposed training materials and a panel which tracked what its AI annotators were working on. It showed that Flock, which has cameras in thousands of U.S. communities, is using workers in the Philippines to review and classify footage.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that tech claiming to save labor and resources has only hidden its exploited workers and environmental devastation. (And not very well.)
Companies that use AI regularly turn to overseas workers to train their algorithms, often because the labor is cheaper. But the nature of Flock’s business—creating a surveillance system that constantly monitors U.S. residents—means that footage might be more sensitive than other AI training jobs.

Curious to see how this project incorporating housing costs into the minimum wage will affect workers and the local economy. Some landlords will be caught between greed at charging more rent if tenants make more and being forced to pay higher wages if they also own businesses lol.
