So I've essentially had writer's block for, god, a decade when it comes to fiction. I can never put anything on the page. But in the past five days I've written more than 6,000 words. Are they good? Who cares. They're on the page and that's more than I've managed in years.

There was a ROACH in my lounge and when I approached, hoping to catch it in a container, it FLEW at me so I squealed "no that's not allowed" and fled to the bathroom AND IT TRIED TO FLY INTO THE BATHROOM and now I have to burn the house down. Hope my landlords understand.

Friends of mine saw Self Esteem in London the other night with Nadine Shah as the support act - I hadn't thought of her for a few years, sought out her latest album and recent live album, and I'm utterly mesmerised. Shades of St.Vincent and PJ Harvey, incredible bass, just brilliant.
