Threading is kind of janky on here in mega threads, so be sure to click through whenever you appear to have reached the end!

If your go to attacks on horrible people are about their weight, their appearance, their mental health, their able bodiedness, congratulations...you're doing the same thing they do.

I'm not trying to be a dick.

But they picked two fat republicans for a bunch of jokes when the young republicans said the worst shit imaginable.

My fat ass is out there fighting for what's right.

Stop equating fat with bad or less. Stop telling ME I'm one annoyance away from being your target.
Two-fat white men in suits.

A pause in the genocide is not ending the genocide. A slowing down of the genocide is not an end to the genocide. The only way the genocide ends is the dismantling of the genocidal apartheid colony. Free Palestine.

Can anyone recommend a good end of life planner to leave for loved ones? (I'm safe, not planning anything, just trying to be responsible especially with all the health scares I've had with long covid.)

Just another nudge to delete Spotify.

Do you really want to lose access to all your music if you stop paying them every month? Or make sure the artists you like are paid as little as possible? Or support this bullshit?

Buying and owning music is better in every way.

This is cool after the war on everything called “porn” by platforms and payment processors. A machine that stole all your words can generate and sell “erotica” but you can’t haaa

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Gaza is tired, tired, tired. Wish it peace, support it, and give it all the love so that it can emerge from the rubble.

the guy is now urging people to tweet at him and then responding to their tweets on air, which makes it feel like the distinction between “twitch streamer” and “cable news host” is collapsing

since holidays that we decorate for are around the corner, keep stairways and banisters clear. this is very inaccessible:
porch railing covered in autumn garland porch steps lined with many gourds and pumpkins, and Halloween garland wrapped around the railings porch steps covered in fall decor; the side with the railing is completely blocked

A few minutes ago in the House:

- Speaker Mike Johnson officially cancels votes next week, extending the House recess through a fourth week

- House Republicans block Democrats from passing a bill to pay the troops during the shutdown, ensuring they will miss paychecks next week
House Press Gallery: During today's pro forma session, the Clerk read a message from the Speaker designating Tuesday, October 14 through Sunday, October 19 as a district work period. Punchbowl's Briana Reilly: House gaveled in and out of its pro forma just now w/o recognizing Rep Elfreth, who was seeking to UC a mil pay bill from Rep Sykes.

Elfreth told reporters after that House Dems stand “ready and willing to take” up standalone legislation to pay troops.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Country fans are upset with Zach Bryan after he criticized ICE in a song.

But don't let it be known that Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash all despised fascism and leaned heavily to the left.

For the uninitiated: The pope being this direct and explicit to U.S. bishops about how to respond to a domestic policy happening in real time is…unusual.

Pope Leo told U.S. bishops visiting him at the Vatican on Wednesday that they should firmly address how immigrants are being treated by President Donald Trump's hardline policies, attendees said, in the latest push by the pontiff on the issue. For @reuters.com:

What @jay.bsky.team and @safety.bsky.app are demonstrating here is that any move to demonstrate the hypocrisy of their public statements regarding the kind of platform they're trying to make, any attempt to hold them accountable for enabling bigotry on that platform, will be met with suspension.
