My 2026 prediction: Dems win the House.

My 2026 hot take: Dems take the Senate through AK, NC, OH, ME.

My 2028 hit take: Ruben Gallego over Nikki Haley.
Celebrating Thanksgiving with some family friends.

One of their kids (my age) apparently works in DC at a government contractor.

I jokingly ask her about the DC dating scene, how no one dates GOP staffers.

She told me she won’t date Dems ones as well because they all have humongous egos.

He's clocked the fact that he may be charged with murder, or similar, in 3 years time, unless Trump issues him a pardon. He'd better not fall out with Trump in the meantime. So he really is Trump's bitch now, even if he wasn't before.

The reason I want to see Secretary Hegseth and Admiral Bradley charged with murder, based on what we know, isn't because I hate the US military. It's because I served in the US military and respect it, and want to see its honor restored.

Now Senate Armed Services Committee and House Armed Services Committee - vow "vigorous oversight" and "full accounting" of Secretary Hegseth's alleged "kill them all" order and double-strike operation.

Rare joint statements by GOP Chairman and Ranking Member on both committees

Hoo boy

Whole buncha folks about to have to face a choice between complying with a Congressional subpoena and getting fired because pete's mad at them

Also if anything is a "start the clock" moment on pete's tenure coming to an end, it's this
There are now bipartisan investigations in both the House and Senate into the administration targeting and killing people in the Caribbean without due process.

The thing is, most of the students, especially mine who are dual history-ed majors, get it. They know how bad all this is. We are failing them.
it speaks well of the student that for the student 'this is the dean of the ed school!' seems to make it more surprising, but I think a lot of faculty would probly say (and probly correctly) that that's one of the people on campus most likely to do this

Time to remember the adage that the mayor of NYC is perpetually politically fucked.
Per recent reports, it appears that Julia Menin has attained the support needed to become Speaker of the NYC Council, with 35 Council People publicly supporting her — granting her 36 votes (including herself) to become Speaker of the Council.

When we got naturalized my dad insisted that I make my American name as my official first name instead of keeping my original Japanese name.

Now as an adult with a very successful career I can definitely see the reasoning behind it…

Right, the answer to the question “can the president issue a valid pardon for the assassins he sent to successfully kill the Congress that was impeaching him” has to be no or the underlying structure of the Constitution makes no sense
i think that we should charge even people who have been pardoned, because there is no conceivable way the founders intended the pardon power to permit the executive to order people to commit crimes and then pardon them for them

I love to have an economy based entirely on appreciating financial instruments and real estate (but I repeat myself) but which refuses to tax that because its owners are politically powerful! Everything will be paid for by taxing income instead!
The political economic situation does kinda suck if you are a renter not in one of about three industries that pay well. And we're cutting property taxes and taxes on tips/overtime so if you're salaried you're responsible for even more of the tax base
