It's cool that domesticated pigs *immediately* go feral.

Like, basically overnight their bodies literally transform, they reshape themselves to become faster, stronger, better predators.

Which is one reason why they thrive so well in disasters.

This seems like a good time to remind everyone that Donald Trump’s first appearance in the New York Times was when the Nixon Justice Dept. sued him and his father for refusing to rent apartments to black people.

The principle of least data. What data is needed specifically to answer a question or understand something? If you collect more data than you actually need, then you remain responsible for all of it and labor in the case of a breach.

Tech bros and govt will have you believe that privacy is about protecting data from accessed by wrong hands and so on. While it is that but more importantly it is about protection against creation of such data in itself.

Lot of data that gets generated honestly should cease to exist immediately.

it’s the job of a ceo to eat shit on behalf of the corporation. if you can’t do that without gagging, hire corporate comms. if you don’t want to do that maybe you shouldn’t be a ceo, which again, you don’t have to be. this is like complaining that your throne of skulls is too pokey

when you become a boss you lose the right to chop it up with the employees in the break room. you gave that up in exchange for power. if you want a business AND the camaraderie, start a co-op

The perfect encapsulation of Politico.

"Of course the White House is lying, but it's a pretty savvy lie, so let's see how it plays?"

It's all a fun little game with no stakes to them. It's like they're recapping episodes of Real Housewives.

This short passage from a Politico afternoon newsletter captures a huge amount of the advantage gained by lying at scale and the why the DC press corps remains wired for the GOP.

October is here & there are rules. First off, corn mazes are fun but they’re no place for the living. Avoid. Secondly, don’t split up to go and investigate a weird noise, that’s what they want you to do. And lastly, if you see a guy running around with a pumpkin for a head, it's too late for you.

BREAKING: Governor Pritzker calls for the removal of Donald Trump as President by invoking the 25th amendment. EVERY governor should stand behind the Illinois governor. Governor Pritzker also cited health concerns for the president. He is clearly not well.

If any other president in all of history said the military should use American cities as a training ground he would be removed from office that same day. The hardest thing to tolerate in all this is how relatively silent elected democrats are. It’s ridiculous.

literally anyone who has done abortion rights work in the last 30+ years could tell you that "destroy science by any means necessary" was the only thing on the bingo card

This. This administration is even worse than any of us thought possible. Who had destroy NIH, CDC, USAID, EPA, scientific research all at the same time on their bingo card?
jvl.bsky.social
My thesis is that no matter how doomer you were in Nov. 2024, we're probably past your worst-case scenario for the first 9 months of this administration.

It's very strange for me to realize I wasn't pessimistic enough.

So a Trumper with an assault rifle massacred people in a church and burned it down because he hated Mormons. But we're so used to seeing THAT, it'll be out of the news by the end of the week.

No flags at half staff for the slain worshippers I guess.
Jason Allen, a Burton resident, told CNN that even locals who didn't personally know Sanford recognized his truck.
With flags flying from the back as Sanford drove it through town, "you couldn't miss the truck," Allen said. Sometimes, he said, Sanford would
"switch one of his flags out for a 'F*** Biden' flag."
Sanford, who went by "Jake," was an Iraq War veteran and outdoorsman, according to military records and social media posts. He grew up in the Flint area and had lived for years in the suburb of Burton, public records show.

Have you ever considered that too many slow burn shows today are *too* slow burn?

Like, the story doesn't start going until episode four and then by the finale on episode eight you realize that barely anything actually happened?

Pushing AI into everything right now makes sense because we’re in the thick of an anti-expertise era, and everything it “makes” relies on malicious dilettantes believing that whatever it spits out is good enough for whatever industry or consumer base to which it’s parasitically affixing itself.
