i think one very clear lesson of 2024 is necessity of having media infrastructure to reach public. right now legacy media is either passively or actively complicit and social media increasingly owned by allies of administration

“many prominent young republicans are actual Nazis” is a self-censoring fact at this point

normie swing voters will literally refuse to believe it and the media refuses to report it because it would call everything else they’ve done into question
beijingpalmer.bsky.social
while 'young republicans are literal nazis' is well known to folks here, the extent of it is surprisingly not that commonly known even in media and analyst circles, let alone normal people.

This is why those “who’s surprised?” comments really don’t move me because we act as if this is sectioned off into “politics” or “culture wars” and don’t affect the bedrock institutions in the society.

Hochul shedding her career centrist persona and deciding to go all in on putting foot on necks has been one of the more enjoyable aspects of 2025.

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

It's essentially become part of the boilerplate liberal Democratic voter plank. The previous No Kings protest here had a large number of people waving Palestine flags or sporting keffiyehs , and the overwhelming reaction from a crowd of (mostly) middle aged women and their families was vocal support

I just want you all to know that when we told you that they wanted to destroy everything and you thought Black women were exaggerating? This was the "ironic" racism you said we were overreacting to 10 years ago. Racism has never had generational limits

The "study" is by Eric Kaufman, a DeSantis supporter who left his post at the University of London citing "cancel culture." He believes that trans identity is a social contagion.

Here's what he believes his study proves.
Executive Summary
• After surging in the 2010s and 20s, trans and queer identities are in decline among young Americans
• The transgender share among university students peaked in 2023 and has almost halved since, from
nearly 7 percent to under 4 percent
• The share of students identifying as not heterosexual fell by around 10 points in the same period
• The decline in non-heterosexual share is concentrated in the queer or other sexual categories (i.e.
pansexual, asexual) and, to a lesser extent, bisexuality
• Today’s freshmen are less BTQ+ than seniors, suggesting that decline will continue
• The decline in BTQ+ identification does not appear to be connected to lower social media use, religious
revival, a shift to the political right or lower support for woke ideology
• There is evidence that improved mental health has reduced BTQ+ identification

To everyone who says, "But this won't matter": *MAKE IT MATTER.*

You have that power! This is not inside baseball and your friends and neighbors will likely be appalled. And if they're *not* appalled, don't be cynical yourself. Take the lead, give the cue.

Kind of amazing that the photo Politico used of one of these folks -- the one who made a joke about gas chambers -- is from an event that Politico sponsored last summer.

Anyway, I'll choose annoying - even occasionally performative - anti genocide protestors everyday of the week over the smarmy & bigoted ghouls who see unimaginable horrors unfolding and responds with variations of "Well I hope Dearborn voters are happy".

Interesting that dead-enders are out here screaming through tears over the idea that a prominent person might get occasionally criticized in public, while said person is basically slow walking to the same conclusion as those critics.

On MSNBC, Kamala Harris was asked if she agreed that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians.

“I will tell you that when you look at the number of children that have been killed [...] the refusal to give aid, we should all step back and ask this question and be honest about it, yeah.”
Former Vice President Kamala Harris held back from labeling Israel's actions in Gaza a "genocide" on Sunday but said it was an appropriate question.
"A lot of folks in your party have called what's happening in Gaza a genocide. Do you agree with that?" correspondent Eugene Daniels asked Harris during an interview on MSNBC's "The Weekend."
"Listen, it is a term of law that a court will decide," Harris responded. "But I will tell you that when you look at the number of children that have been killed, the number of innocent civilians that have been
killed, the refusal to give aid and support, we should all step back and ask this question and be honest about it, yeah."

To be clear: these are the exact same folks who have been doxxing & putting people on must-fire lists for simply posting innocuous Charlie Kirk comments…

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

It's grimly amusing that national Democratic leadership has essentially spent the last year demonstrating how all of the rhetorical positions they staked out ("Party unity above all", "Don't meddle in primaries" etc.) over the previous ~8 years to chastise progressives was all just cynical BS.

Mills, running against Graham Platner in the Maine Democratic Senate primary, would become the oldest freshman (79) ever elected, to a 6-year term.

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

I absolutely do not believe that these disparate right-wing groups have seen the light or anything like that. But I do wonder if they're starting to see developments within conservative communities that is making them start to inch (very gradually) back to a more arms-length position.
