I think it's important to keep in mind that Jeffries refused to whip on this issue, effectively giving them the green light from the party to do this

Again, the entire party is complicit here, not just these seven craven monsters.
7 democrats made this bill pass.

If they all voted “no” it would’ve failed 213-214.
NEW: DHS appropriations bill funding ICE passes 220-207

7 Democrats voted YES on the bill:
- Jared Golden
- Marie Gluesenkamp Perez
- Henry Cuellar
- Tom Suozzi
- Laura Gillen
- Don Davis
- Vicente Gonzalez

One Republican voted NO: Thomas Massie

Neighbors are still being torn apart, and we have yet to hear back on a plan from Governor Walz.

We are asking the community to call his office and ask for an eviction moratorium. You can leave a voicemail here: 651-201-3400‬.

The Minneapolis City Council unanimously adopted a resolution urging Governor Walz to enact an eviction moratorium as an effort to keep families together. Unfortunately, rent is due soon for so many families. 1/

You cannot overstate how startling it is to see a politician just say the thing with clarity and poise. No fearful hemming. No overwrought qualifying down til it’s meaningless. No lingering sense that there is a loyalty to a donor class or an ideology of stasis that they’d never admit to.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

Emergency eviction moratoriums now! Like right fucking now!
Neighbors in Minneapolis are keeping neighbors housed in the midst of the federal occupation—thousands of dollars are being raised via mutual aid networks to help pay rent.

Meanwhile, the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority filed 38 evictions yesterday against some of our most vulnerable neighbors

Dear neighbor,

We don’t know when this ICE occupation is going to end. Our neighbors are not sheltering in place because they are struggling to pay for rent, bills, and groceries. While the community has been meeting the moment, it’s time for the government to step in and help. 1/

Minneapolis is headed towards something resembling a general strike, if you were wondering how the campaign to cow working people into quiescence is going
Last night, The Minneapolis Federation of Educators Local 59 signed on to the call for a Jan 23 shutdown. That brings total labor support to: the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1005, SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, CWA Local 7250, St. Paul Federation of Educators Local 28, and the MFE 59
Unions and community orgs are calling for a Minnesota-wide shutdown in 10 days to protest the ferocious assault by federal immigration agents. They're saying on Jan 23, no work, no school, no shopping. SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, & others are supporting, w/ more to join. By me, Amie Stager

In Mpls (& much of MN), we now say this any time anyone has to go outside at all.

Because disabled people are getting cut out of their cars & put in federal detention when they try to go to the Dr.

They're entering clinics.

Chemical weapons on school grounds.

Grocery store lots.

Bus stops.
Please text me when you get home so I know you are safe. You know, just in case.

I often think about Jonathan Cooper's posts about TLOU2, that the studio ran out of seasoned game animators because its reputation was so bad and thus had to hire film folks who had to be taught how to put games together.

Walk into my neighborhood ACE last night & see the signage on their door notifying fed agents that it’s private property and cannot be used for immigration enforcement. These signs are all over the city.

Walk in & the nearest shelf has goggles & whistles.

Journalists often go on hand-fed ride-alongs with agents.

Seldom, though, do they get into the cars of everyday people protecting their communities from those same agents.

We just did exactly that, in ICE-occupied Minneapolis:
