I have written this thread up into a blog post, it has more extensive links to sources & previous conversations about fake content & users on the internet. It's easier to share, if you want to make sure your friends don't get caught in that honeypot of a corporate blogpost aramzs.xyz/microblogs/d...
Don't trust the human slop telling you how much of the web is AI slop
Is a lot of the web algorithmically created content? Possibly! But don't share the argument that's trying to sell you on creating more fake content.

Look, if you're not an expert you wouldn't know, but this chart is bullshit. They could not possibly measure this as 1. How can you tell for sure? There's no reliable automated way. 2. You're not counting the many sites that are blocking crawlers now.

But there's an even more important reason...
the internet is now a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy and so on

every once in a while you are left in awe by a little story that is just so immaculately made and such an apt demonstration of the vast things one can achieve with a simple set of tools and some pointed concerns and i think PENDA'S FEN is one of those things for me
This week's SBG bonus episode is on PENDA'S FEN, a striking BBC teleplay from 1974 wherein an incredibly uptight young man through a series of increasingly anomalous encounters learns to interrogate British identity, personal history, sexuality, religion, and more: www.patreon.com/posts/shelve...

If you read this one sentence summary and think “oh interesting,”watch this movie immediately. It floored me. (And then come listen to us talk about it.)

Thinking a lot about how when Schreier's exposé on R* working conditions came out, several mid-level devs I used to respect came out with very defensive "well *I've* never worked 90 hour weeks" as though it negated the fact that many contract and QA devs demonstrably were.
