This spring, MN Republicans sought to exempt athletics entirely from the Minnesota Human Rights Act - trying to end run around legally required trans inclusive policies.

Around the same time, IA Republicans removed gender identity from civil right protections *entirely*.

That's no coincidence.

Religious institutions are afforded broad exemptions to non-discrimination protections in MN and the US at large on 1A grounds. That is well established, and only further solidifying.

A disappointing decision for LGBTQ+ folks who work at these institutions - but not a surprising one.

In a precedential opinion, the Minnesota Court of Appeals affirms the dismissal of a transgender woman's discrimination case against a Catholic school, ruling the 1st Amendment protects the school because declining to employ trans people "affects the faith and mission of the church itself." #MACW

just put the finishing touches on my novel! Inspired by William Gibson, it's the story of a dystopian society where corporations trade cured pork through a vast, interconnected digital web — the titular HAM NET. And now I think I'll reward myself with a trip to the movies

they’re transparently teeing up “it’s against my religious beliefs to treat trans people respectfully” with an aim of causing these outrage incidents designed to force trans people from the work sphere, and I’m gonna need my cis “allies” to realize this and get ready to be on the attack
I’m frustrated because that goal seems to be flying under the radar so far
but also because this essay was clearly written to be digestible for the base they’re trying to rile up, and it’s depressing that that base’s limit for comprehension is “argument-shaped stream of consciousness”
almost certainly planned by the student to try and create a transphobic campaign, and it’s working

tbh you probably COULD religiously persecute me. it’d take me long as hell to say anything. not bc i’m ok with being persecuted. but bc last time i thought i was being persecuted it turned out the bus driver just didnt see me running. i am often wrong. i guess not everyone thinks they’re often wrong

Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.

Excellent reporting by Taylor on Cyndy Martin, whose homicide court date is today.

Multiple people have been functionally harassed out of the party just for talking about the charges against Martin. I appreciate the fuck out of Taylor collecting this timeline and reporting on it.
the DFL has a problem with cyndy martin holding multiple leadership roles - like CD8 chair, and CBRC and code of conduct - while facing criminal vehicular homicide charge. she doesn't appear contrite. she appears defiant. she has evaded responsibility from the start

An ICE agent was caught removing a sign marking an ICE kidnapping in DC last week! Do we think he did it out of anger, embarrassment, or most appropriately shame? If you think what you’re doing is right, why are you trying to hide the evidence? 👀

Fuck Carol Becker. Fuck Becka Thompson.

What a fucking embarrassment.
On the same weekend that Carol Becker was concern trolling on the lack of diversity in local politics, she was using one of her several reddit accounts to defend a claim (made by Becka Thompson) that white candidates are disadvantaged because council members of color win based on their race.

You don’t always have to “pick a side” in international conflicts. Sometimes (most times, really) there isn’t really a clear “good guy” and “bad guy”.

It’s okay to sit with that discomfort instead of picking a winner like it’s a sports game.
