Yeah, an infernal CBP helicopter woke me up early this morning. They’ve been buzzing my neighborhood like harpies all weekend. It reminds me of occupied Ireland back in the day. The racket casts a pall of doom, provokes a mix of sorrow and anger.

Chicago brings a Monstrance. Protests at the Broadview detention center began 19 years ago. Demoralized by our mistreatment of migrants, a Catholic immigration lawyer I know started praying there on Fridays. A month later he was joined by some Sisters of Mercy. They’ve been holding it down since.

So we retreat to defensible lines, closer to home, better infrastructure, denser population, more supporters, fewer adversaries. We’re far more resilient here.

The city’s ultimately defensible. Broadview’s looking like a lost cause. They can’t match the state’s logistics operation out in the burbs. It was always a stretch. They made a heroic effort, but got stabbed in the back.

Yeah, it’s a weird coincidence. Pritzker set up a Joint Command. Illinois State Police and Cook County Sheriffs make up most of the muscle, with ISP leading. Both wear brown shirts.
