Regular folks in Chicago getting shot and gassed on the regular are understandably skeptical of empty gestures and gaslighting from elected Democrats.
The degree to which the Democratic Party is failing to meet this moment is staggering. And INFURIATING, when contrasted with the courage on display from ordinary people with far, far less power & protection.

I grew up in Chicago. Whenever I hear someone diss the South for being racist I feel obliged to point out that King could ultimately march in Selma, but not in Marquette Park in Chicago.

New Yorkers responding to raids and bracing for more are taking a cue from activists there, passing out thousands of whistles in recent weeks as a low-tech way to alert people of ICE activity when they see it.
