I'll never ever forget me and my friends renting The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from Blockbuster as teenagers and putting it on expecting some campy schlockfest. 83 minutes later it was like we'd all been in a car accident. One of the great movie-watching experiences of my whole life.

This whole movie feels like you're tied up in a sack on the floor of a pickup truck being poked with a broken broom by a cackling gas station owner (complimentary)

40 MINUTES INTO THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE: Why must this man Franklin whine and scream so? Surely, surely no other sounds could be more persistent and abrasive!

Honestly, it's very difficult to say how it looks, because how is 16mm that was screened theatrically supposed to look in 4K, you know? It's a great looking movie and it looked great to me. Maybe a little murky in the shadows, but again, hard to say what is and isn't "supposed" to be.

Literally a comfort movie for me 🙃

I think firing up he 4K of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre at 10pm on a Saturday is just the thing I need to unwind.

Grizzled Young Veterans are good wrestlers for Eddie Kingston to work with. He always looks and works best against really crisp technicians. 🤼

my pleasure—enjoy!

We've been watching the 1983 BBC adaptation of Jane Eyre, with Timothy Dalton as Mr. Rochester, and his performance is frankly revelatory. I feel like I "get" him as a person in a way I haven't elsewhere.

thanks i hate it

the dude simply does not have it!

The terms are basically interchangeable—iirc he just thought "orc" was too unfamiliar a word to include in a children's book, so he went with "goblins" there. In LOTR it seems people in Middle-earth tend to use "goblins" colloquially for smaller breeds of orc.

I wasn't nuts about that Andrade squash. He came across like a guy who was wasting time, not an unstoppable beast. Looks great though, and the bit where he revealed he's no longer doing figure fours was funny. 🤼

Catching up on Collision. Tony Schiavone on commentary here, but not on the Dynamite they shot the same night—please tell me that means they're not having him pull double duty anymore 🙏 🤼

"the most hypnotic and visually stunning of any of Carpenter's films" Correct!
'The Fog' may be a Play the Hits kinda movie where ghost stories are concerned, but it is made with extraordinary care and precision. @awalrusdarkly.bsky.social champions this underrated John Carpenter classic

It's also uncharacteristically sentimental on Sauron's part. He misses his old boss!
January 18, 2026 at 12:45 AM
Sauron converting Númenor to Satanism is such a funny bit. "Have you considered offering human sacrifices to the Lord of Darkness?" "Hm. You make a persuasive argument"
January 18, 2026 at 12:44 AM
Definitely. It's a cautionary tale about what happens when your inn doesn't invest in a world-class bouncer. "Now it's the kinda place that they sweep up the penises after closing."
