I am a dev and I dislike AI because

•it cannot operate without stolen data
•it does not work reliably
•it lies all the time
•it is terribly inefficient
•it pollutes
•it is/was oversold
•the biggest frauds champion it
•the people behind it are psychos

none of these are unreasonable complaints

I’ve not heard of a Black Friday deal worth leaving the house for since the 2010s. We all got flat screens. There’s no new consoles. The printers got subscription fees. The phones aren’t going down. Couldn’t tell you what ppl are buying but junk they don’t need

Ever work with a grandiose entry-level new hire who flattered colleagues to their faces but talked about them behind their backs, never hit a deadline, and could not do anything right, but was juiced in somehow and couldn’t be gotten rid of?

That’s GenAI, the CEO’s Nephew®

Every prompt to chatbot software is “generate me some text.” If it generated you some text, it performed its function correctly. It never lies, it never wants anything, it’s text generating software that generates text.

I saw Ghostbusters at age 6 and never laughed at the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man until recently. I just always saw him as a Cyclopean monster thanks to that initial, uh, childhood trauma?

I may have been a stupid kid

No. The Thing is a movie about a bunch of people who all distrust and hate each other trapped in one building as the tension between them slowly builds until it reaches a breaking point. It's a Thanksgiving movie.
Should John Carpenter's THE THING be officially classified as a Christmas movie? Let your voice be heard!

Interesting that the two Ray- names are so close together, and that they're aligned with Republicans. I'd have expected them to be further apart, and thus blue. You know, because of the Rayleigh scattering
To zoom in on the partisan names, here, we're looking only at names used >100 times (in 2023) and only 50 names on the outskirts of the partisan divide, labelling the 5 outliers on each side and the 5 most commonly used on each side. inequalitybyinteriordesign.wordpress.com/2025/04/03/p...

I have two. Toy Story 2’s “When She Loved Me” flashback and the final scene of Heavenly Creatures.
What movie scene will make you cry everytime you see it?
I'll go first.
Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium.
When Mr. Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) explains to Mahoney that he going to die.
