What it means is quite literally that you can, in fact, find people of physical traits you wouldn't expect in almost every ethnic group in the world. There are Saudis who are natural blondes and Finns whose grandparents were all born there who are remarkably swarthy. It just happens.

Most other -eon words come from Greek, so they pronounce it like a Greek word, but this is old English and ultimately German, so it isn't pronounced the same.

Your problem is that Luncheon isn't a real word, so you can't make an educated guess based on other words.

The word was nuncheon, from noneschenche, noon drink.

"Lunch" was cognate with "lump," meaning a hunk of bread, but it was eaten at noon, and got expanded to luncheon to match nuncheon.

What jargon does media get wrong in a way that's jarring for you?

"Stat" doesn't just means fast, it means "there is a life-threatening circumstance and I need this to solve it." Nothing in a morgue is 'stat,' just 'asap.'

On a ship, "aye" means "yes." "Aye-aye" means "heard, and I will comply."

"10-4" isn't a sign-off; it's a 10 code, which means "I've received you clearly." It's an acknowledgement.

It's also no longer in use in most radio coms.
