Lots of fake and misleading info online, but this post is entirely true
Great time to get into one of the absolute best documentary series in the wired
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the U.S., which means that today I have published my annual "this one's an all-timer" Thanksgiving Eve video retrospective. This time it's Disney's DuckTales for NES: youtu.be/nhS7pn7oXsw

Seriously, unless you were there and old enough to understand what was going on in the pop culture landscape at the time, it’s impossible to appreciate how dead Disney seemed to be for most of the 80s.

NES Ducktales + The Little Metmaid hitting at the same time in ‘89 seemed like a miraculous fluke

It’s been three years since I offhandedly quoted my nephew’s joke while hanging out after a family Thanksgiving dinner, and people are STILL scrounging for clout by reposting screen caps of the tweet as if it were their own fresh content. The internet is inexplicable

All I want for Christmas is for you and two of your friends to go preorder Metroidvania: The First Decade at your favorite cool local book shop
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Verdict on buying the groceries for Thanksgiving against the current backdrop of needlessly accelerated inflation:

Finally, Battletoads the way it was meant to be played: with save states

(The other games are all absolute top-flight stuff, legit "happy holidays" fare)
Nintendo added more games to Switch Online!

NES:
- Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos
- BATTLETOADS

Game Boy:
- Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters
- BIONIC COMMANDO

This is complete bullshit.

I moved my five bankers boxes of obsolete cables to our storage unit a few days ago
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

I thought about this for a while and struggled to find an answer. Eventually, I realized that every single picayune bit of stupid video game trivia I know will eventually be press-ganged into a video or podcast to help pay my bills, so by definition I do not possess any useless video game knowledge
i was going through my X archives and found this by @superpodsaga.com, which I qrt'd at some point years ago

so, let me bring the question back: what is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

This afternoon the doorbell rang, and I opened the door to find a pair of elementary age girls going door to door selling “squishables”.

“What’s a squishable?” I asked.

The younger of the pair looked scandalized. “Didn’t they teach you ANYTHING in school?” she said. “They’re things you squish!”

A new recurring NES Works feature begins this week: instead of asking "what did Nintendo Power say?", this episode looks at topics and themes in ALL of the magazines on the U.S. market for Summer 1989. Most of which didn't exist a few months earlier! youtu.be/DkAJVFiW9cA

For Gundautumn ’25, I watched The Witch From Mercury. It's easily the best thing called Gundam since War in the Pocket.

I have also come to a decision about A.I.: the only way I will invite it into my home is in the form of an actual functional Haro. BUT only if it includes GWitch's murder mode

I spent the weekend working on an Analogue 3D review that ended up fizzling for various reasons. No fault of the console's, though... part of the problem is that I need to totally overhaul my recording and editing setup to correctly capture its high-end features, as you can see: youtu.be/792g4IDUnBY
