I think it’s difficult to understand in this age of commoditized pocket supercomputers that 30 years ago a certain set of people viewed the PowerMac with the awestruck reverence normally reserved for authenticated holy relics

This video is great because it's like 50% best-in-class digital cel animation, 50% nerds talking breathlessly about how cool it was to use their PowerMac to draw robo-ladies

In all seriousness, it's just a Pioneer LD on an S-video hookup into a RetroTink 4K, recorded on a (sadly discontinued) Elgato 4K deck that lets you capture video directly without needing a computer connection

That movie was basically my religion when I was in second grade. That and Pac-Man. This new one is more like proof that God doesn’t exist

At least a sheep knows when to touch grass, kiddo

That's why you get better endings for a shorter completion time... easier to power-wash the interior the less time she spends in there

I read a plot synopsis of Tron: Ares, and my interest in the movie has now dropped from "near zero" to "negative", which I didn't even realize was possible

Me, I learned that from the Don LaFontaine-sounding trailer voice guy who recorded the Armitage promos that appeared on other tapes from the same company

In case you’ve ever wondered what kind of audience the Laserdisc medium was marketed to, consider that Pioneer’s U.S. releases of the Armitage III anime had fully English-language packaging EXCEPT for the spines, which printed the titles in katakana

The Web 1.0 aesthetic is BACK, baybee

Has it rained so much there that you can’t wait for a touch of sun and sand?

This was the actual first DVD I ever owned. Had to go out and buy a player to watch it, and the discs didn't even work reliably (when I contacted Animeigo customer service for advice, they said "sorry, that's brand-new tech for ya." Thanks, customer service!)

Hello! If you plan to brave the frogs to attend Portland Retro Gaming Expo, you can see my not-quite-an-NES-40th-anniversary presentation in exactly one week and 15 minutes! A few hours later, I'll be part of the Retronauts panel! And at Quarterworld that evening for a meet-up!

Sucks for them, I mean. No more post-podcast meals and cocktails for you guys

My home office is finally set up again for in-person podcasting! Sucks that all the folks I would record with locally have moved away or had a life change

Yeah, the mechanism for this refund was a side income downturn that meant our additional withholdings were too high. Not the dream scenario to be honest

I like little furry guys! I do not... like hantavirus in my walls
