One thing I appreciate about MEA is that, while the Reapers and Shepard do play a backstory role, it's *only* a backstory role. Sovereign has already done Space 9/11 on the Citadel by the time the Initiative leaves, but that's it. Ryder has no reason to know Shepard from a hole in the ground
Ryder's responses to Cassandra sound like vaguely uncomfortable non-responses, suggesting that despite the fact that Ryder doesn't know anything about the Milky Way past the beginning of ME2, they're able to piece together enough to know that Cassandra is in denial.

I got past it and it's even cooler: there are two abandoned settlements. In the first fight, the sniper duel, you're there as the dropships come in, so you're the defender. In the second fight, you get there after they do, so you're the attacker

Somewhere in the second act there's a firefight in an abandoned settlement on Eos and I haven't yet been able to get past it but it feels like the staging is nudging players toward a sniper duel and frankly that's the coolest shit ever

I think one of the ways moral OCD is different from conscience is that it causes cowardice. A friend recently said something racist, so I silently dropped her without confronting her. A post I saw recently said that's just what white people do to avoid fights, and I've come to feel I agree

I think people should be aware of social concerns before they do things but I'm starting to feel that the paralytic "never do anything" attitude that I personally have adopted is not something I should be spreading, especially because I find some flexibility when it's me

One of the best worldbuilding guides you can read is Tolkien's notes on translation, where he talks about the fact that *everything* you write is in practice being translated into English; is is no more anachronistic to use the word "September" than it is use the word "sword" or "house" or "hello".
Not sure how I feel when a book tells me that instead of "12 months" they have "10 arcs," which are each 40 days long, and they all have names like Blossomarc, Flamearc Snowarc,.... I appreciate the world building, but couldnt we have just kept the calendar the same?
