time for a new topster. not that much different from the old one, but i've certainly acquired some new all-time favorites! top 100 studio albums on the left, top 30 live albums on the right! what's your favorite album here?

i had to see fuckboy hamlet david tennant and now you do too
Actors can be nuts, man. A dude (André Tchaikowsky) left his skull to the Royal Shakespeare Company to play Yorick in future productions. No one felt comfortable doing it until David Tennant played Hamlet.

Incision left early access this year as well, with a hell of a finale. A one-note game, but that note (industrial cybergore) is played so confidently and consistently that I don't mind at all. Like a faster, louder, tetanus-hazard Quake.

The authentically 90s-crappy FMV cutscenes are a joy, too.
INCISION on Steam
All old-school FPS action. No Bullshit. Lots of blood & gore. Slaughter your way through nightmarish industrial mazes, transformed cityscapes and surreal alien structures to cut down the Growth in...

We finally got Skin Deep this year and it is *exceptionally* funny. Loved the slapstick gameplay mechanics encouraging chaotic slapfights with enemies, which dovetails nicely with the writing, which kinda sits at the intersection of Venture Bros, Futurama and Jazzpunk.

The second half (two thirds, almost) of Cultic dropped just a couple months ago and is one of the best low-fi shooters ever made. I wouldn't even call it retro, just intentionally scuffed up. Pre-distressed shootery.
CULTIC on Steam
Death is only the beginning. Crawl from your grave and gear up to fight your way through the ranks of a mysterious and twisted cult. You, your guns, and your dynamite will have to shoot, slide, blast,...

the most unrealistic thing about dorley is where do they get those fucking mugs
November 28, 2025 at 4:58 PM
everyone stop talking about call of duty black ops 9 and start talking about cultic chapter 2. cultic chapter 2 might just be the best FPS of the past 20 years
I really hate how Call Of Duty just sucks the oxygen out of the room. So, the campaign in the annual corporate franchise sucks this year? There's been more words written about that than probably EVERY OTHER FPS RELEASED THIS YEAR COMBINED.

And there have been so goddamn many, and so many great ones

really interesting discussion of difficulty here. articulates very well my stance on why games like dark souls shouldn't have difficulty settings
November 28, 2025 at 4:35 PM
empowered demons in doom eternal are a stroke of genius because they let you get mad at OTHER players for being bad at the game

on one hand i appreciate the generous discount on yakuza 0 director's cut for owners of the original game, but on the other hand, i don't really want yakuza 0 director's cut! it sounds bad!

an interaction from a campaign i ran that i think about often:

knight pc, trying to convince the princess to open up to him: of course you can trust me. i'd never harm a lady of honor. ...or a lady of no honor, for that matter.

rogue pc, watching from under the bed: phew. i'm safe
