As a junior trans academic who frequently implicitly and explicitly brings critical theory into the classroom, this whole thing has me wishing that my union actually had real power
So yeah, this is fundamentally about trans people and that cannot be elided, but the ways in which junior faculty are targeted and disposed of, while academic jobs are increasingly precarized, and political grandstanders seek to influence academic governance are fucking terrifying for everyone.

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

Trust me, just go read this story. It's long (and still ongoing), and it essentially like a serial where you have to wait for the next episode to drop, and it's SO GOOD!

(my only complaint is that it's hard to read in post format because my computer lags and I read too fast)
a cis womans husband cheats on her with a trans woman, so she divorces him. their prenup was pretty strict on infidelity, too, so she absolutely cleans him out

months after the dust settles, she runs into the trans woman at the grocery store. the trans womans eyes burn with anger,

It's impossible to read the news stories on this without spontaneously manifesting a Looney Tunes soundtrack
What the hell: The US accidentally invaded Mexico on Monday, storming a beach and planting DoD “restricted area” signs claiming the land for “the commander,” and triggered a standoff with armed Mexican security forces, all because Trump’s government can’t even identify a border on a map. 🧵 1/

On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor the trans people lost to violence in the U.S. this year.

Widespread poverty, homelessness, and discrimination makes trans people 4x more likely to experience violence than the average person.

We shouldn’t have to live in fear to be who we are.

indeed, for every academic abuser and enabler: i promise there’s an amazing grad student out there who is doing work that’s as good or better.

we’ve let the myth of the lone genius guy carry on too long. it’s caused so much harm, in so many ways.
I refuse to believe that Larry Summers' expertise and skills are indispensable in any way. Please find another economist and policy expert, @americanprogress.bsky.social. There are loads out there.

A-fucking-men.

"Covid avoidance is for the disabled" narrative doesn't help disabled people, especially in an ableist world.

It gives the masses who think they're abled license to think "I'm healthy! I don't need a mask!"

"You're healthy, so it's okay to get HIV!" 🙃

*EVERYONE* SHOULD WEAR N95!
I know theres a narrative around wearing a mask to protect disabled people.

I'm going to be real for a second.

That's not why I wear a mask.

I wear a kn95 or a kf94 to protect myself.

That I might also be protecting others is just a side benefit.

As a disabled person, PLEASE BE F*CKING SELFISH ABOUT THIS!!! I don't want ANY of us to get sick! I wear a mask to protect myself. If you wear a mask, too, we're both better protected. I also got myself a really good air filter for the office SO I DON'T HAVE TO WEAR MASKS IN ALL OF MY MEETINGS FFS!

I am gutted to learn of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social (Alice Wong’s) passing. She was always a warm friend, a wonderful spirit, and someone who fostered my own growth. She helped me see that, as a #disabled person with chronic illness, I matter—I am whole. I’ll be posting some of Alice’s work. ❤️ forever
