Reporting like this makes people unreasonably afraid when crime is down, promotes the fraud that more prosecution would make them safer, and more basically, eats away at basic notions of truth and integrity on which a more beautiful world would need to be based.

Great read. Been seeing the argument that these LLMs won't go away as part of the AI is inevitable narrative, a lot.
Last times, the AI winter did make it (AI in the form of ANNs) basically go away by being seen as uncool effectively, and not hinging off their performance (though many think that's what happened).
