My modest proposal for addressing the question of whether ivy league kids are getting too much time to complete tests and thus gaining an "unfair advantage" is to feed all ivy graduates directly into a meat grinder, a policy that would vastly improve society and save a ton of everyone's time

This is, possibly, the worst advice on how to get a level design job I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t so much read as something written by someone who’s never worked in dev, more like someone whose parents were killed in a freak level design accident, and they vowed never to place a trigger volume again

The other thing about "oh I wish press would cover indie games more" is that a well known reality in games marketing is that convincing someone to buy your game typically means exposing them to it multiple times. People rarely actually make a purchase based on seeing something once.

I don't believe there was any point in my 10+ year career in games and games media where press coverage had the power to "create" an indie hit.
this is a particularly funny year for the "press should cover indies more" convo to pop up again because as far as I can tell we've reached a point where press coverage has zero effect on sales anymore so idk, be free indies, worry about things that actually matter like steam nextfest placement

The dual nature of reality is exemplified in that if you want to make chicken salad – the classic warm-weather lunch option – you have to first poach chicken, and thus as a byproduct make chicken broth – the classic cold-weather dinner option.

The idea that you're going to have a safety net and material security for all people while also allowing a minority to accumulate wealth and power without limit is such an insane delusion. Even by centrist standards it's such a starkly idiotic notion when phrased explicitly like that.

It is funny to call this card "Deadly Precision" given how the characte depicted is, you know, the most nonlethal knife throwing assassin of all time. Just constantly pinning people's clothes to walls and suchlike. She did also miss a lot. It was kid's show!

I think the corollary that a lot of people miss about "write what you know" is that *you have the power to know more things.* Research and talking to people are a central part of writing!

I continue interested enough in Pluribus' mystery to force myself to watch but it is true that the way this show is paced and structured drives me insane. Once I saw that every scene is basically constructed the same way I started really feeling like this tv show could have been an email

Redwall-esque anthropomorphic animals where all the different animal people's cultures are like, driven by metaphors (the squirrelfolk are bankers because they like to hoard nuts etc) *except* the cat people, whose whole deal is very literal and they will not stop eating plastic
