Met a small flock of Pine Grosbeaks on the weekend. The males are red, and the females are this gorgeous gold/bronze colour. Bird guides often say “yellow” but that doesn’t work for these beauties #birds 🌿

Both AM and PM commutes were dark today but there were some really pretty views to enjoy. Looking good, Saskatoon!

Yesterday, for reasons too complicated to explain in 300 characters, I introduced the students in my grad class on molecular diagnostics to “Barrel of Monkeys” and explained (and demonstrated!!) it was a game we played before the internet. Hilarity ensued 🐒🛢️🐒🐒🐒

My experience with Ruffed Grouse is that unlike their “heart attack bird” cousins, the Sharp-tailed Grouse, they just walk around like they own the place (which they do) #birds 🌿

Today was an OVER THE TOP bird day. Thousands of gulls, sheerwaters, cormorants, and pelicans feasting on the scraps of the dolphins and whales. Unmute for chaos vibes. 2 clips. Stick around for the 2nd one! 🪶

African buffalo are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. They can way 900 kg and are apparently considered grumpy.
I’d be grumpy too if I had to carry a bunch of yelling red-billed oxpeckers around all the time!

Quite a few #SandhillCranes in the farm fields again. A few short clips to get the feel for the atmosphere.

Vid1-When cranes land around many others, there is alot of excitement. They flap their wings and hop around. It's not quiet!... and it's very fun to observe.
