Back home, still feeling like crap. That said, pretty pleased with all I got accomplished. Not as much as i wanted to but close.

Ya. Although I could see it for those specially trained with full knowledge of the danger. Ie: astronauts. Space shuttle first flew with 1 in 12 (ended at 1 in 90)

Commercial passenger margins are many , many factors more conservative
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
To sum up.

SpaceX will almost certainly provide this service for the military at some point but commercial, point to point rocket passenger travel is as likely as hyperloop (far less likely i'd say)

It's hype & absolute nonsense as well as being and environmental disaster.
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
To say nothing of the G loading on passengers. 4.5G sustained for launch & 2.5G for the belly flop landing.

Grandma Tilly isn't flying on this.

FWIW, Max Gs on a 787 is 1.3.

Alan Shepard: "It's a very sobering feeling to be up in space and realize that one's safety factor was determined by the lowest bidder on a government contract."

Now apply that to Elon, known cost cutter & engineering advice ignorer.

The reason the Concord was a failure was that it was not allowed to fly over populated areas. There is some new aviation tech that show promise on mitigating this...but you will never mitigate a rocket landing sonic boom
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
Caveat: I'm not an engineer or climate scientist, I'm sick & only part way through my first cup of coffee.

But I believe the numbers are good enough to show concern is absolutely warranted.

And as someone has mentioned, these things produce massive sonic booms on landing.

And none of this takes into account atmospheric methane release aka "venting" during testing, launch preparation & takeoff. Of which there is a lot.

And of course methane is waaay worse than CO2.
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
Some starship CO2 estimates are as high as 79,000 tons per launch. (395 tons per passenger)

Numbers here are based on 200 passengers. Elon has said SS may carry 1000. Which I think is both technical & commercial nonsense but even if so, it's still ~3x worse than the 787 at the low end.
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
Starship produces at best ~3900 tons CO2. (19 tons/passenger)

This is per launch. Destination is irrelevant.

A 787 flight from New York to Sydney, AU produces about ~325 tons (1.3 tons/passenger)

Starship is 12 times more polluting than commercial air.

Watching the SpaceX Starship test flight 11 stream and they keep talking about how this Starship will someday just take you to any place on Earth in about an hour like US to Australia in an hour not 20 hours. (That speed is tantalizing but I find the enviro impacts worrying.)

LM appeals to a lot of well meaning (?) white folks. I think I followed him at one point years ago on Twitter. But following a wide range of Indigenous folks quickly shows you how he's thought of.

If you follow him you should read the article.

I am seeing a lot of people reposting Lakota Man today bc it's Indigenous Peoples Day. A reminder that he is not well liked amongst many (most?) Natives on social media. Many of us blocked him a long time ago. Some of the reasons why are in this article.

www.dailydot.com/irl/lakotama...
Who is LakotaMan, the user behind one of the most popular Native American accounts on X?
John Martin is adored by white X users—but infamous among Native and Indigenous communities.

That's some fine work you've done there America.

Who do Canadians regard as an “enemy”? This comes from a new Angus Reid report on India, but get a look at the redder end of that list

(Red = enemy/threat; pink = maybe so)

In the last few days we've seen 2 massive bull moose, coyotes, trumpter swans, snow geese, ravens, white tail deer (plus a few regular geese)

That said, we've been out here almost a month... Most time we've ever spent out here in almost 30 years since my parents bought the place. It's been lovely to see the full end of fall. When we first came out, it was 27c. Today it was 2 and there's a low of -10. Winter comes fast in Alberta.
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
Thanks Nancy. TBH, all that matters is that Sam is doing really well. The rest is just annoying.
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
I did get a lot accomplished but I'd expected to be done. Now probably I've got to wait the winter to finish. (Might get out again if we have a warm last part of October)

Fwiw, we had 1 covid test & I was negative on day 2 of symptoms but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
I also had lots of supremely frustrating things happen.

Like with 10 minutes of trim work, the female air hose fitting just.. broke. Which I've never seen before. After almost 2hrs to town & back, the replacement fitting didn't fit w my tool connectors. So required another trip. For 10 min work
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
It's been a cursed month. Our second day out here, the microwave in the house actually started on fire (briefly), then of course the horrible attack on Sam. Then we had to go back into town for a thing which ended up being cancelled and now this illness.

I easily missed 10 days of construction
jayispainting.earthskyart.ca
There's been no trailer reno updates from me because we both got sick on Tuesday and we've been just dealing with that. We're heading home tomorrow with the rest of the work to be finished in spring I guess. Not looking forward to packing up everything while I still feel like shit.

And they did.

A day later, I've got Shorts as the 3rd recommendation and now have no ability to even use the See Less Shorts option
YouTube homepage with some shorts listed and no 3 dots to see less shorts.
