I just found this account and it is the best thing I've seen on the Internet in a while. Real-life chronicles of folks in a touring band. The latest(?) story is an in-depth examination of one particular instance of the cat distribution system.

Today, my job was to be the person who swept up the onion peel as neighbors prepared food for hundreds of families who can’t leave their homes. It felt very small, but it was something—and it was a reminder that there are many different roles to play as we fight for our democracy.

I’m seeing lots of people on here misunderstand the purpose of ICE watch.

It’s de-escalation. And it’s grounded in the social science of violence. 🧵

This is part of a longer thread that's worth reading, but I hadn't seen this story about fast food restaurants offering plant-based alternatives that don't pretend to be meat. A friend introduced me to the Mumbai Masala Sandwich, which I think would be a huge success if it went mainstream.
The problem with impossible burgers is simple: the best veggie burgers all look and taste like veggie burgers, you can see bits of veggie in them, etc

The market for people who want to not eat meat, but pretend to, is tiny

This is why Beyond Meat is going bankrupt

Beyond Meat taking longer to pay its bills as plant-based sales plunge
The company said it is “not planning to file for bankruptcy” even as data shows an increase in overdue payments.

If he wants to declare martial law, he will. It won't be based on reality. I don't know why some people continue to say: "be peaceful or he'll invoke martial law." Are you all living in this country in 2026???? Haven't you seen them make things up out of whole cloth???? Are you 10 years old?

This is how the Union lost the Civil War after the Confederacy surrender. Centrists never learn.
Newsom's already calling for a joining of hands with the Nazis and let atrocities be bygones.

what this should make clear to everyone in this country is that it does not matter who you are, there's no "it could never happen to me"

you can be a white woman who drives around with stuffed animals in her car, and they will still kill you in cold blood and call you a domestic terrorist

Look at the hundreds of people in that community in Minneapolis who ran TOWARDS the danger. Look at those who documented in their heads what happened so they could accurately recount it afterwards, look at those currently out protesting. Pay attention & do your part too.

This is the "testing the waters" phase of the playbook. The GOP ecosystem targets groups like Somalis, Haitians, and trans people specifically because they've calculated that the average person's passive disapproval won't ever turn into active defense. They're exploiting public apathy.
i'm really having a hard time getting past the "surely we can all agree that Somalis are worse than trash" thing. this feels new and very bad

billionaires are literally stealing our money and destabilizing the world as we type, so yeah, we’re going to seize every damn cent of that money, and then we’re taxing away the rest of their wealth. i firmly believe our democracy cannot coexist with billionaires

Stancil has finally done something worthwhile - I wouldn't have known about Abughazaleh incorporating mutual aid into her campaign if he hadn't made a statement about it so dumb that people had to clown on him for it. This is another in what seems to be an increasing number of positive developments.
White man has opinions about the Black Panther Party and their Free Breakfast for Children program, which we have to thank for Congress's school breakfast program that feeds over 14 million American kids ever day.

Apologies because we're in a crisis here, but this is very fun to read out loud emphasizing every inappropriately capitalized word and screaming out every all-caps word and phrase.
Every part of this is bonkers. The intro is bonkers. The transition to his health is bonkers. The mention that other presidents didn't need cognitive exams is bonkers. The claim that this screening test is somehow hard is bonkers. The idea that criticism of him is treason is bonkers. All of it.

Seeing this thread today finally reminded me at just the right time (when I had a minute to spare and was in front of my computer) to make a shingles vax appointment for tomorrow. I've heard bad things about the side effects, but I have friends who've had shingles, and that sounds much, much worse.
I am baffled by this because I have had so many friends with shingles and NONE of them made it sound fun. Not one. A vaccine that made me absolutely miserable for 48 hours would still be a huge improvement over the mildest case of shingles I've heard of. (Also it made me tired for 1 day.)
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

Thought-provoking thread. Way into the weeds of Catholicism and far from my wheelhouse, but I grew up within this American Heresy (which seems to differ from the 19th Century American Heresy) - within fundamentalism, surrounded by evangelicals. The bits about the city on a hill are worth it alone.
Pope Leo's first sermon and, uh, his using the phrase "be ever more fully a city set upon a hill" and cf'ing it to Rev 21:10 instead of any of the others before saying "many baptized Christians" are "living in a state of practical atheism" is. Well. Shots fired!

Good thread.
A lot of folks have spent time dunking on this and being angry in response; both are understandable because this view is wrong. But I also understand how people *arrive* at this mindset, because it's the cultural default that we're taught if we don't know any better. One of scarcity and vengeance...
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

This is so f'ckin weird. I thought Newsmax was a specifically fascist organization created to uphold the new fascist state, but it turns out maybe they're sincere fools.
Woah. Newsmax’s legal analyst just said Pete Hegseth and everyone involved in the illegal boat strike should be “prosecuted for a war crime.”

They’ve even lost Newsmax on this one.
