long covid is now a more common childhood ailment than asthma.

everyone worried about falling birth rates and graying/aging societies might want to be concerned about how we’re setting up an entire generation to be too disabled to do the work we’re counting on them to do.

because i'll say that i suspect a lot of white people who would like D'Angelo's Black Messiah but still haven't heard it. I didn't hear it when it came out. It wasn't played in places where I would have heard it.

It's interesting to see the different book standards. Japanese novels tend to be small because Japanese is *dense*. My Japanese copy of "Mother Night" is about 30% the volume of my English edition, but the English would be unreadable at that size.

Dutch, on the other hand, makes books grow by 50%.

I finished Les Misérables yesterday, and a large part of the reason I finally made it through (third try) is that this time I read it in on my iPad instead of the physical copy I own. A 1,300 page book is not very portable!

In Japan and noting the voraciously reading train commuters All the books are small novel size (like a penguin vintage) but made of beautiful fine paper. Can be read held in one hand either open or cover bent back on itself to save space. Text books, manga, novels. Uniform. Spectacular.
