lol, but can I also just say that if you'd shown me this picture and asked me who it was I would never ever have recognized that I was looking at Kate Beckinsale. Did she undergo a Face/Off procedure with a real housewife of Salt Lake City or something?

I was walking home from the corner store and passed a man in a black full length hooded woolen cloak and I'm sorry, that needs to come back as standard late fall wear. November is meant to say things like "Hark! Weary traveler! I feel I must warn you the local Public House is out of Coke Zero."

Shiny, uncomfortable looking metallic linens are one of my favorite "futuristic" TNG things. Just the absolute least cozy looking beds on TV. There is no scarcity, there is no poverty or widespread disease, everything in the Star Trek future is better, except for the beds which are scratchy as hell
Pillows (sometimes the exact same one) made from the same shiny colourful material are seen several times aboard the USS Enterprise-D (#StarTrekTNG's "The Child"↖️, "The Survivors"↗️, "The Offspring"➡️, "Night Terrors"↙️, "Half a Life"↘️) but also on Rutia IV ("The High Ground"⬅️).

You guys interested in more stuff I pulled from Ron Moore’s ‘90s AOL chats with DS9 fans?

This was in reaction to a Season 5 ep retconning Dr. Bashir’s history. OH NO! The sacred CANON was violated!

Ron has the correct perspective (and more patience than I would have.)

Very serious biopic about the top American fighter ace of WWII (40 kills), which doesn't sound like a real exercise of my power until you learn that his name was Major Dick Bong

As despotic president, I would require that his name was said at least once every minute of runtime
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Finding different ways to name 100 different head slot magic items is a staple of fantasy rpg design.
I still remember the joy I felt when I asked you if I could name a hat a "chapeau" and you were all "sure"

It felt like such a triumph at the time

I have a degree in medieval English literature and EVEN THEN a bunch of the related chivalric/combat/architectural terminology I've learned has come from fantasy videogames and not schooling

Put "oubliette" in your game, it sounds cool as hell and it'll teach people something
there is almost no feedback I will reflexively ignore as a game developer but “you shouldn’t name something X because people don’t know that word” is one of them. oh no! You might learn a new word! God forbid you take away a piece of knowledge from a game that’s not a brand of gun or some shit lol

The military has a duty to refuse unlawful orders, but Congress has a duty to remove from office a president and secretary who would issue such orders. There is something off about members of Congress talking about the former while refusing to say the latter, the part that's actually their job here.

This is so funny because recipes can literally already be copied and reposted with no attribution or copyright. All AI does here is add statistical noise and make the stolen content useless. AI can’t even steal content without fucking it up.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

I was at Costco a couple weeks ago and saw a bag of iced sugar cookies and thought "oh those look good" before I realized I was looking at dog treats. This seems like an easier mistake to make than most people will want to admit
We are nearly approaching the 10-year anniversary of the Colangelo family Thanksgiving mystery of trying to figure out who ate the bag of gourmet dog treats thinking they were cookies and stashed the wrapper under the couch once they realized their mistake.

The "please dress up for your commercial flight" thing would make more sense to me if airlines hadn't spent the last 30+ years removing every possible aesthetic and physical comfort from the cabin in order to squeeze an extra few paying customers aboard. There's nothing luxurious about it anymore.
