Brad Lander is at the victory party and, folks, he has the custom one-of-one “GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE” shirt.
it is way too perfect that they announce zohrans win almost exactly at the “if you have half a brain lyric” lol
Oh my god it was right after the chorus dropped too
I love that it looks that Mamdani is over 50% so this shit doesn’t matter but it would have been genuinely funny for them to have done this and cuomo to lose anyways
according to @jessyedwards.bsky.social of @hellgatenyc.com Curtis Sliwa just said on stage that he was offered $10 million to drop out of the race

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

Still one of the bleakest quotes I have ever read, from one of George W Bush’s senior advisers.
With... damn what almost 25 years of working in games??? I am very skeptical I could come into any project and provide direction and guidance without at *least* a few weeks of careful discussion, fact finding, interviewing the team and understanding the pipelines and processes
I feel like I know some context here and it uh.... is quite frustrating
games are weird enough and varied enough and tech changes rapidly enough that in reality this becomes “any leader who gives orders before listening”. Acting too confidently as if you know anything without understanding reality on the ground is a recipe for this kind of out of touch leadership
I can answer that
* business guy who runs a company because he has an MBA and rich friends
* person entering leadership sideways from leadership in an unrelated industry w/ no desire to learn
* single-discipline dev who went indie and has never had to think about full production before
seriously how do you get to a lead role in the games industry without understanding concepts such as "greyboxing" or "bugs not yet fixed in this version". like what is the career path, for these people?

dude this is so insanely common, especially back in the day when you were doing WFH for publishers... truly nauseating

i love my aloof wife
[the NY Post scrambling to make a last-ditch scandal:]

"umm, uhhh, his aloof wife Rama Duwaji secretly ran the campaign"
finding the right tile to place your city is fun but that’s kinda a subset of exploration so
also wow hiring rough over there too 😬
wow was randomly curious and looking at square enix’s job page, they’ve adopted western job titles! (designer for game design instead of planner, artist for artist instead of designer)

really not looking forward to four years of this being sourcelessly cited as the reason he doesn't do something that people want as opposed to the completely normal constraints of the mayorship that, like, 300 people online know about
President Obama called Zohran Mamdani on Saturday — praising his campaign and offering to be a "sounding board" into the future.

Obama said he was invested in Mamdani's success beyond the election on Tuesday.

"Your campaign has been impressive to watch," Obama told Mamdani.

fun to say but has a terrible track record in practice. when a retributive justice approach has worked in the past, the people invovled did not go somewhere they could come back from.
i think it does serve a purpose for (for example) having less expensive games that folks with less cash can go see their fav player (like shohei!)
I actually think this is something where we could learn a lot more from other countries... and tbh fixing up american democracy is going to involve a lot of challenging assumptions about the structure of american democracy that we told everyone else was incredibly smart and important lol
cathartic but impractical and not good for the long term health of society imo. I think there's room for people in charge to go to jail and people who committed specific crimes to go to jail but you are not going to mass detain every ICE agent and end up with a functioning society 10 years later imo
as cathartic as that would be I don't think mass detention has been very historically practical or effective. i don't think we're going to have or want a massive cadre of "prison guards but woke"
yeah, the micro design of the game totally works but the macro design of the league is kinda a mess.
