Hey @nature.com, have you got an explanation for how the hell THIS happened? & especially why you accepted a paper with such a bizarre piece of genAI slop in it?!
& more to the point, why we should take you seriously at all going forward?

I wrote a thing defending Microsoft Teams. Probably my most controversial tech opinion 😅

It's a fascinating case study in understanding your market positioning and how it doesn't matter what the majority of the industry believes about you if you are right...

In defence of Microsoft Teams
Now, I suspect out of everything I write, this is potentially the most controversial opinion I have. Microsoft Teams is actually brilliant. Right. Let's try to explain this... The dark old ages I...

I think a lot of well meaning good government types should be thinking closely about Peter Mandelson, and how dangerous it is for a politician to earn enough to give them a taste for yachts, but not enough to afford a yacht of their own.

A depressed AI chatbot goes to a doctor, says life is harsh, unforgiving, cruel.
The doctor says treatment is simple. "The great AI assistant Gemini has all the answers you need. Go & ask it."
The AI bursts into tears. "But doctor," it says, "you can use gasoline to make a spicy spaghetti sauce."
Google Gemini doesn’t appear to be doing too well:

‘"I am a disgrace to this planet. I am a disgrace to this universe. I am a disgrace to all universes . . . I am a disgrace to all possible and impossible universes and all that is not a universe," the bot continued.’
Google says it's working on a fix for Gemini's self-loathing 'I am a failure' comments
Google Gemini users said the bot is sharing self-loathing messages while attempting to solve tasks, including "I am a disgrace to this universe."

You know what's gonna happen, is "Coldplay" will become a verb, like "they got coldplayed," and the word will outlive the legacy of the band so it'll become this weird origin story you find in trivia lists, like the Earl of Sandwich or Thomas Crapper.

i) Take a trip to the mountains.
ii) Spend some time in a cooling cave.
iii) Find an underground lake.
iv) Get undressed.
v) Hunt the silvery fish and eat them raw.
vi) Forget the torments of the evil face in the sky.

The besetting problem of the political elite this century is a sense of helplessness.

So everything (all parties) is about signaling.
Here’s something that does my head in: the VAT-on-private-schools thing will raise about £1.5bn in 2026. That’s… lots? But governmentally it’s kinda not a lot (UK GDP is roughly £2.6tn). The tax is right, but I’m pretty sure the money isn’t the main point.
