The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

White people who have spent decades thinking “Born in the USA” is patriotic and “Every Breath You Take” is a great wedding song are suddenly very concerned about not being able to understand lyrics to some songs at the Super Bowl halftime show.

This may be one of the worst ICE deportation stories I’ve ever fucking read.
cmgiulini.bsky.social
After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

He was wrongfully imprisoned for 43 years. Moments after being released, ICE took him
Subramanyam “Subu” Vedam now faces deportation.

After the 15th inning it is time to replace one player with a dog until someone wins or it's all dogs.

Yes it does. So the à is a short, really open "ah" like in "pot" (not like the long a of Krasz/"cross"
The ó is just held for longer and emphasized a bit more than a plain "o" would be, and "ó" often comes at the end of a word. You don't need to worry about that one as much.

Very much enjoying the inflatable frog segment of the civil war.

Do not get me started on the various manglings of Imre Kertész

I realized I should add: LAH-slow. (As in the English adjective “slow”). The “sz” in both names is a simple “s” sound, absolutely not a “z” or “zh.”

🌟 “We needed to do something.” Lori’s story is a reminder that grief, rage, and love can become engines for change. From buses to food pantries to ACT UP, she showed how ordinary courage feeds extraordinary legacies.

You’re doing the lord’s work! 😂

Okay, my best attempt: CROSS-naw-hor-kaw-ee
But the first four vowels are all the same. So keep the “o” sound from “cross” and repeat it three more times. (Somewhere between “aw” and “ah”)
“Hor” gets the second most emphasis.

Anyone who needs me, I’ll be here all day teaching people how to pronounce Krasznahorkai 🇭🇺

The first (especially if it’s asked by a condescending stranger) is “What a weird question — would you ask a man how he juggles being both a banker and a father??” and the second (especially if it’s asked by a fellow writer, one whose eyes are full of despair) is… well, it’s a two-hour long answer.

I’m doing another online seminar for 5 Things I Learned… Specifically: When people ask how I balance parenting with a writing career, two answers come to mind. 🧵

She was also hilarious. I wrote about her, and I promise it will make your day better if you take a minute to learn how driving a bus led to decades of activism and charity.

In early August, the indomitable Chicago AIDS activist Lori Cannon passed away. She was an irreplaceable resource while I was writing The Great Believers, and inspiration, angel, and friend to thousands. 🧵
