I get it: Billy Joel could write “We Didn’t Start the Fire 2” using just headlines from the past two weeks.

That said, Trump’s increase in wealth has to be one of the biggest stories of his first year in office.

I want to convey this in no uncertain terms. The citizens of Minnesota--an entire state--are terrified right now. The federal government is responding through greater force. The federal government is not looking at its own citizens as "citizens." They are looking at us as something to "break."

If ICE and genocide and grift and tyranny weren’t enough, this alone should have fire running down every street in America.

This isn’t the way to live.

We do not have to live this way.

The history of civilian mass detention on the basis of identity without due process or recourse (which is how I defined concentration camps in my history of them) shows that it invariably leads to permanent harm—and typically significant loss of life as well. The longer it goes on the worse it gets.
As detention expands, conditions get worse, thanks to overcrowding and the chaotic transfers of people all over the country.

ICE detention has always had problems, but they're worse than ever now and the impact is clear. Deaths hit a record level in 2025, and 2026 is already looking to be worse.
The detention system has grown so rapidly that already harmful conditions have worsened.

Thousands of immigrants arrested in the interior are detained in hastily built tent camps, where conditions are brutal.

More people died in ICE detention in 2025 than in the past four years combined.

Whenever someone says they are “neither right nor left,” prepare to discover that they are so far right it will take your lovely breath away.
I wrote book reviews for a while for the WSJ well over a decade ago, and Bari Weis was my editor. One of her special tricks was to try to insert a sharp rightward slant into my essays *after* it had been copy edited, as a way of slipping her viewpoint in at the last minute.

I pulled up next to one at 10:17am yesterday an snapped a photo. By 10:27 the agents I photographed were in front of my house, along with another vehicle that met them there. It's a 10 minute drive from where I took the photo to my house - so they got the data *instantly*

Guys I think they're instantly getting DVS data.

Pulled up next to this guy on central going south in Columbia heights, followed him, they turned around, got on 694, crossed the river, and went straight to my house in Brooklyn center.

This is Minneapolis:

Walk into my neighborhood ACE last night & see the signage on their door notifying fed agents that it’s private property and cannot be used for immigration enforcement. These signs are all over the city.

Walk in & the nearest shelf has goggles & whistles.

Also, they‘re not as scary as they think they are. They are, however, hated, and they will be hated more the more they try to scare people into submission.
minneapolis is under siege and it is taking basically all of ICE’s manpower

they cannot replicate this across the country and they aren’t close to recruiting the kind of numbers they’d need to even get close

they are, flatly, not going to be able to get there

Two days ago I watched a woman lay a single red rose down in memorial. An ICE goon came over, picked it up and put it in his lapel. Then he used it to flirt with a female goon. They were all laughing. She had been dead less than 24 hours and they were desecrating her memorial and laughing about it.

Even when shot isn’t as on target as they hoped—like this year—it greatly reduces symptoms and spread, including in your own household.
