Wrote this fun piece about women who quit their corporate city gigs for Hallmark jobs! It was a real blast to report out (and lowkey inspiring) www.bustle.com/life/hallmar...
Burned Out At Work? Maybe You Need A "Hallmark Job"
What it's really like to quit the corporate grind, find charming work in a tiny town, and marry a local fisherman.

That people would only work to protect their neighbors because they get paid cuts to the core of conservative ideology. Across Minnesota, people, many who weren’t that political, are outside in negative temps, armed with whistles and phones putting their lives on the line to protect their neighbors.

So really no one’s going to do anything about this…?
Not the sort of letter committed to paper by a well man. "Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace"

I’m at a bar watching the Seahawks game with fans. My friend and Seahawks fan wife — who does not care about football — was the one who broke the Bo Nix news

No one is taking the bait. Regular people armed only with whistles and phones are trying to prevent their neighbors from being disappeared by unaccountable masked armed goons. The differential in power and force between these two sides is so immense it is laughable to even consider them together.

I feel like people who are telling folks in Minnesota not to take the bait so Trump doesn’t invoke the Insurrection Act have a lot more good faith in an aging cruel dipshit who is being feed a steady diet of AI slop by scheming viziers who dream of invoking the Insurrection Act than I do.

Two white friends tail me home if it's outside the hours when people are out and about. I'm damn near third generation Minnesotan. It's not just "you're a citizen you'll be fine." I'm a black woman alone. Who knows what they will do.
I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

PSA: as rent-stabilized tenants, we retain our leases and must be offered renewals by law. Our fight is over whether this buyer will actually fix the issues in our apartments and maintain the buildings—or simply extract more money from our homes by forcing people to leave so they can raise rents

It appears that Summit, one of the biggest slumlords in the city, will be purchasing my apartment building, and you bet your ass I’ll be making a huge public stink any time there’s a problem in my or one of my neighbors’ apartments.
An indignant attorney for Pinnacle Group from Big Law's Weil, Gotshal & Manges referred to tenants who were legal delegates on filings and wanted to sit in the courtroom as "paid protestors." The clerk had to be like "no one gets to say who can be in the room except me and the judge" and let them in

I was at bankruptcy court for three hours yesterday and listened to more of the hearing online after that. The lawyers for my current landlord and the presumptive buyer were SO mad about organized tenants so I personally think every rent-stabilized building should form a union :)
Slumlord update: Sale set to be finalized today. Thanks to tenant organizing "the bank financing the deal offered to extend a $3M line of credit to fund repairs." Buyer negotiated w city, tenants "around a binding timeline and specific cash commitment to address thousands of housing code violations"
NYC landlord clashes with Mamdani administration in 9-hour bankruptcy hearing
Attorneys for City Hall and Pinnacle tenants argued for legally binding financial commitments that would compel a new buyer to address housing violations.
