To each their own! Fountain soda is often free at the bars I hang out at in NYC and I'd prefer not to take up a bar seat and read without buying *a* drink (plus the N/A Guinness beer is fun to sip slowly w/ a book).

tbf probably not more sugar than a mocktail, but that's also why i don't like mocktails (except for the St. Agrestis phony negroni, which is excellent)

Another upside of NA beers is that if you want to pop into a bar to kill time/read/be in a third space but don't want to drink, it feels better to pay $8 for an N/A beer than take up space for a $2 Diet Doke.
