She sees Mamdani as the candidate of the gentrifiers. His upset win in the Democratic primary and front-runner status has prompted an existential crisis of sorts for Collymore, who has been active in local politics all of her adult life. Mamdani’s pledge to make the city more affordable should in theory appeal to Collymore, who has watched countless neighbors get priced out of Clinton Hill. But she suspects Mamdani will accelerate the economic forces changing the makeup of Black neighborhoods by greenlighting housing that’s out of reach for lower-income residents.

I live in a gentrifying neighborhood. I grew up on the UWS. I would *love* to move back and raise a family just a few blocks from my parents, but I couldn't possibly afford rent there. NYC's high cost of living is one of the causes of gentrification! www.nytimes.com/2025/10/23/n...

On Fox Business, Cuomo continued to paint an ominous picture of New York City under Zohran Mamdani if he is elected mayor and questioned his allegiance to America and the city. “Dual-citizenship, he was a citizen of Uganda, his parents own a mansion in Uganda, he’s spent a lot of time there,” Cuomo said. He went on to again invoke 9/11 in conjunction with the candidacy of Mamdani, who was a 9-year-old boy living in New York when the attacks took place. “He just doesn’t understand the New York culture, the New York values, what 9/11 meant.”
