Kind Hearts & Coronets is so, so good.

So many drily funny lines with great Dennis Price delivery. Eg. -

"I must admit he exhibits the most extraordinary capacity for middle age that I've ever encountered in a young man of twenty-four."

I was glad to see the article says it’s “loosely based on KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS” because I was about to shout “plagiarism!”

KIND HEARTS is my favorite of all the films I had to watch in my film classes. Seek it out - Alex Guinness plays all the murdered relatives
Glen Powell has to kill of all the relatives ahead of him in line to inherit billions in How to Make a Killing.

It took me longer than it should have to realize/accept that if new shows/movies came out in an IP I loved like Trek that I didn't enjoy as much it was ok, because the old stuff still existed. It's awesome. I get to love ST: Strange New Worlds and I don't have to be mad at anyone about ST DISCO. lol
“I may be disappointed more people don’t like the choice we made, but that doesn’t change my opinion of what we did” is another quote I want to bronze/steal.

Was relistening to the You Must Remember This season on Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons, and there was a whole thing about an angry racist fandom letter campaign (instigated by Hopper) against… Gone With the Wind over casting a Brit as Scarlett. It’s always been like this.

Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

If people want to understand why American politics went bananas in 2012, the reason is that the moderate black President took a modest but consequential step toward decoupling healthcare from employment and every billionaire immediately poured their entire portfolio into race-hate media

This was what led to me archiving these. It wasn’t a constant thing, but every now and then I’d have an interaction with a fan of the show and get the deja vu of “didn’t someone shout something this obnoxious at Ron during DS9? How did he handle it?”

Fandom attacks are almost all familiar scripts
It's kind of interesting to know that even if the language has changed, the stupid backlash from entitled fan boys is the same.

"It is against the TOS to be talked into suicide by our LLM" is possibly the most evil tech bro thing I've ever read

As someone who has been speaking a lot about fan entitlement as of late, this feels very good to read and he’s right.
More Ron Moore AOL fan interactions from the 90s.

The first one deals with fan entitlement - the delusion that every true fan believes as they do and that they have ownership over the show because they care so much.

Dems will treat this with anger and resentment - but that means missing the point entirely...

When someone like this speaks out against Trump, it means they know it's now safe to do so, they know he's weakening.

They can read polls. They see 2026 coming.

If you have ever thought that my journalism or my first book were net positives for the world, understand that they probably would not exist if I did not have a spouse who paid the mortgage. If I'd been a solo earner/parent, I likely would have left criticism, journalism or book writing long ago.
And the folks who are actually writing full-time generally only got there after years of day jobs, family support, or both.

The point of sharing this is not to demoralize anyone, but to let emerging writers know they're not failing if they can't make a living off writing alone. Almost no one can.
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.

You are not allowed to think of yourself as an anti-capitalist hero if you steal books. No. You can get books for free in any number of ways that still allows us to eke out (insufficient) livings. If you're not going to do that, just admit that you don't give a shit. At least let's have some truth.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

I’m sorry, but if Democrats were in power, would this not be in the headlines every single day?
Average electricity cost increase since Jan:

Missouri ⬆️ 37%
Iowa ⬆️ 30%
North Dakota ⬆️ 30%
Oklahoma ⬆️ 30%
New Jersey ⬆️ 27%
Nebraska ⬆️ 25%
Montana ⬆️ 25%
Wyoming ⬆️ 23%

NATIONWIDE ⬆️ 11%

Instead of working to lower costs, Trump is boosting power-hungry AI data centers.

When I was working on the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show, some fans would still get mad at us for “changing canon” of previous versions (Mirage comics, 80’s cartoon, movies, etc), even though it was already well established they are all different continuities.

REMINDER: if you think your right-on lefty/socialist/communist/etc. politics justifies pirating books, well guess what? Most writers don't make a living wage from their books or writing work, and stealing from them makes you a class traitor.

I've heard of multiple writing teams at co-producer level that were offered staff writer roles on shows.

I know of a team that refused, but I also know a team that took the offer. To be clear, this wasn't the same show, but two unique productions.
re: unprecedented times. Lower and mid-levels are further disadvantaged because they're competing for positions being taken by experienced upper levels who take the pay cut 'cuz they have mortgages to pay, too.
