As the Trump admin predictably rolls the National Guard into the streets and a Republican army of enablers roots for military violence against Americans, some words on why, and the way forward.
The Tyranny of Tiny Men
The way to fight back is not to give up on anyone. The way forward is to stand with each other, for each other.

"Why should you have healthcare coverage when you're not sick?"

This is literally the same logic that Brian Blase keeps using re. a significant number of ACA enrollees never filing a medical claim as if that's a bad thing.

"Why should you have auto insurance if you haven't been in an accident?"

Winsome Earle-Sears: "The hospitals that are closing? They were closing long before the bill passed ... why should you have Medicaid when you're able-bodied?"

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

Piggybacking on this to share a story I overheard today. Lady in front of me was USAID. Got fired while she and her family were stationed overseas. Kicked out of their home and kids pulled from school. Moved back here, living in a shared apartment, and she’s selling things on Etsy to get by. 💔😡

it actually offends me how sloppy and careless they are. anyone who’s ever been laid off knows the panic you feel when it happens. and while obviously it’s good that they backtracked, these are people’s fucking LIVELIHOODS they’re messing with.

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

I constantly yelled about Vaughn’s terribleness when he was with the Sox, but that he survived a terrible organization for so long, I’m genuinely rooting for him in these playoffs. He deserves some happiness after enduring the White Sox’s suckitude.

Half the time I post something related to race on this website I get someone in the comments like, “yeah america is a racist country what do you expect.” I’m starting to think folks like this are bots or ops designed to make people feel helpless. Think we should call it “doomsplaining”

I do not care that you are not “surprised.” Please. You have no idea how tiresome it is when you post that something horrible, fascist, authoritarian is “not surprising.” Nothing is “surprising” anymore. But a lot of it is horrible and frightening. Let’s deal with it together.

seems like a non-insignificant percentage of rage against the machine's fanbase are young republican men driving SUVs bopping their head to anti-oil, pro-immigrant songs thinking the lyrics are about how they wish their suburban parents would get off their back
Tom Morello tweets: "Fascinating that all those “don’t tread on me” posers and their AR-15’s are nowhere to be seen and government tyranny is instead being opposed by a guy in an inflatable frog suit."

Someone named Manny replies: "@grok
why do some people say Tom Morello and band mates are RAGE FOR THE MACHINE and not against ?"

If we survive this, and Democrats are able to take back power, I guarantee you we will have to endure think-piece after think-piece that demand the rest of us reach out, stop shaming, and forgive fascists and the crimes they’ve committed. I absolutely guarantee it.

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

Before Trump began dismantling USAID, polling showed that the average American voter thought that ~25% of our federal budget went to foreign aid. But that figure was only 1%—and our foreign aid contributions represented a much smaller share of our Gross National Income than other wealthy countries.

In Chicago, four vehicles descended and eight ICE agents moved in to kidnap a child.

She screams, “I’m 15,” as ICE yanks her from the car and kneels on her neck.

This is not about immigration enforcement.

It's about terrorizing Americans.
