This second AOL interaction is Ron Moore responding to a fan upset with Kirk’s death in GENERATIONS.

In responding Ron gets to have his say about how killing off a character doesn’t mean a writer doesn’t respect a character. (This is a frequent charge against writers in these situations)

More Ron Moore AOL fan interactions from the 90s.

The first one deals with fan entitlement - the delusion that every true fan believes as they do and that they have ownership over the show because they care so much.

I think fans like arguing about canon because there is a sense that it proves their argument is more righteous than an counter-argument. And thus, if you bend, violate, or even SEEM to contradict canon, well, that’s just disrespectful and you should be ashamed of yourself.

But that’s rarely true

You guys interested in more stuff I pulled from Ron Moore’s ‘90s AOL chats with DS9 fans?

This was in reaction to a Season 5 ep retconning Dr. Bashir’s history. OH NO! The sacred CANON was violated!

Ron has the correct perspective (and more patience than I would have.)

I feel like you could change a few names and this whole fan tirade could be on several subreddits and fan boards today.

"You're spending too much time on things I don't like! Musicals suck!"

What I envy about Ron Moore is how thoughtful he is about his process and his willingness to be blunt, but articulate about his creative decision making.

This from a back and forth with a fan upset that Ron offered a counter-perspective to their criticism.

Today I was looking at it for the first time in a while and came across one that REALLY resonated. Now DS9 is widely praised and used to attack all the new shows. People say the new shows aren't "what Trek is all about."

Let's see what people thought of that in the 90s...

Good lovin', I got a truckload

The main story has Superman encountering Mr. Z, who somehow met him during WWII.

Z’s gimmick is he steals souls and imprisons them in his gem. Superman gets out if this a bit easily, but it’s a solid issue #TriangleEra35

This era is remembered for its long-developed subplots. In this issue, hard-luck hero Jose Delgado loses his lotto ticket while trying to helping someone, and it ends up with Bibbo.

Bibbo’s big lotto win plays into his character for YEARS after that #TriangleEra35

35 YEARS AGO TODAY - a red letter day in Superman history, the official start of the Triangle Era with SUPERMAN 51. @jerryordway.bsky.social wrote and drew it, with Dennis Janke’s inks.

Jerry was one of the best Superman cover artists and this one is a good example why #TriangleEra35

Better late than never! November 16th was 20th anniversary of ALL-STAR SUPERMAN 1!

Genuinely surprised none of the geek sites did a retrospective

Today is the 33rd anniversary of the Death of Superman in SUPERMAN 75. Written by Dan Jurgens, art by Jurgens and Brett Breeding.

This was 4 years ago yesterday.

It was an all-day shoot in an old paper plant as Superman fought Bizarro and it was COLD.

I’d been professional the entire shoot, but today was the day I finally asked Tyler for a picture. My director, Diana Valentine, got one earlier that day, which provoked me

Every Democratic claim that some future event will turn the tide just sounds like Calvin reasoning that if he goes 2 hours into the future, he can get his completed assignment without having to do it.

THIS is how I find out that ALL'S FAIR was co-created by the guy who's West Wing was "shot almost word for word?"

This is what happens when Kevin Biegel doesn't come over to Bluesky, our cultural history of WGA-related in-jokes dies.

Post you from a different era.

This coincides with that brief period where Bob Dole had cool cred as an Election 2000 correspondent for THE DAILY SHOW.
