Doctor Sleep clarifies that Kubrick’s movie was from Danny’s perspective, a child who fears a monster. But when Danny grows up and becomes an alcoholic himself, he understands the book’s perspective, that his (monstrous) father was human. The book and the film now complement each other. Very clever!

King famously hates the Kubrick version and I think this is exactly why. King sympathizes with Jack and think he’s a tragic figure. Kubrick sees a domestic abuser and finds him irredeemable from page one.

What I think is brilliant about Doctor Sleep is that Flanagan makes both stories true.

So Kilmer Abrego-Garcia will not challenge a deportation to Costa Rica, who has agreed to for him residency, but DHS won’t agree to send him there because it’s not cruel enough.

The deportation order is based on Vedam’s conviction for murder—a crime he did not actually commit and for which he’s now been wholly exonerated. He entered the US at 9 months old and was a legal permanent resident before his conviction. We are so, so, so far from the light of justice.
