And, of course, EVERYTHING I post here is on my own behalf, speaking only for myself, etc. unless explicitly stated

Thirty years ago today, the scientist Clair Patterson passed away. He campaigned tirelessly and effectively to remove lead from gasoline, paint, pipes, and food cans. The drop in violent crime that correlates with this change? Massive.

worth saying that some portion of the freed slaves were themselves illegal aliens having been brought illegally into the united states by smugglers. if the birthright clause applies to them, it applies to undocumented immigrants
Here is the question presented. It's a relatively clean vehicle for the Supreme Court to finally decide whether it is lawful for the president to deny birthright citizenship to the children of immigrants. www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/25...

Inasmuch as I explicitly model my starship names in the Interdependency series on what Iain Banks was doing in The Culture, my presence in this headline is superfluous; nevertheless I will take it

It's cool that kei cars are the new cause du jour of the President, but unless there's a good market for them they won't be able to get the production volumes up enough to make 'em affordable. I just don't think it's feasible, despite it being one of those 'stopped clock is right 2x/day' moments.

Our City Council rep is having a meet-and-greet holiday event tonight and I’m going to go but I’m fighting off MAJOR, “… but I could also NOT go,” urges. Buuuut, if I want to get more active in the community, this is a good place to start, so. Gonna go.

Wonder how many other people will be masking?

One of my least favorite things to do at work is standardize state and country names and codes because boy oh boy you never know when someone is going to have Very Strong Feelings about certain places.

I understand why, and I’m far more often sympathetic than not, but we’re dealing with 1/

I don’t have a point with this post beyond noting how my own coding and development practices change over time.

Station wagons never left as such, they just turned into SUVs or survived in niche market segments. No reason you can’t make a fuel-efficient wagon NOW, you don’t need to reduce standards to do it.

Give me a wagon based on my Camry XSE Hybrid - I would legit love that.
Sean Duffy on slashing fuel economy standards: "This rule will actually allow you to bring back the 1970s station wagon. Maybe a little wood paneling on the side. We can bring back choice to consumers."

I had to look up Dean Kamen's other inventions because he is indelibly associated with the Segway in my mind. He did some neat stuff! Insulin pumps! Drug infusion pumps! A very good mobility system for disabled people (taking technologies and lessons from the Segway, even!)!

But man, the Segway...
Younger people who didn't witness it cannot fathom the hype around the Segway. Every news station agreed it would revolutionize the entire social fabric of the Earth. That all future humans would divide history between the savage days of the past, and the soon to be new era of zoom zoom scoot scoot.

Dear Guitar George,

We actually need someone to play lead who can make a guitar cry or sing and who DOESN’T know all chords.

So I’m sorry but not a good fit.

You should call the Sultans of Swing.

Might be called the Sultans Who Play Creole. Not sure.

Good luck!
