Getting along like Unicode in an ASCII file. In a love/hate (but mostly love) relationship with Alabama, Mobile in particular. I like SQL.

And, of course, EVERYTHING I post here is on my own behalf, speaking only for myself, etc. unless explicitly stated

I'm tired of being the bigger person. Just once, I want to be the smaller person, tiny enough to be carried around in someone's pocket, shouting petty retorts.

Well let’s see, Granddaddy marched at Selma AGAINST civil rights w Grandma’s blessing, so that’s my maternal grandparents pretty high up there. Paternal side was more in line with the elite Republican variety of racism of the 60s and 70s, so also pretty up there, but less by comparison.

Not for the first time, I find myself musing on how Irish folk music is FAR more amenable to translation into punk rock than, say, German folk music.

Immigration ✨ IS A GOOD THING ✨
They don’t want LEGAL immigration either, in case there were still any doubts.
Scoop: The Trump administration is planning a policy change that could make it harder for immigrants to get green cards and other approvals if they are from countries subject to the president’s travel ban, according to internal documents.

I finally used the temporary mute feature to mute a term for 24 hours. This is a genuinely nice feature.

In my view, a “paperwork American” is an “American.” They put in the time, effort, and money for their citizenship. No need for the qualification in terminology.

But then, I’m not the target audience for the term.
It’s how you end up with language like “paperwork American” or the idea that Thanksgiving turkey is some sort of natural ethno-national tradition that certain other groups are incapable of ever appreciating

I got my flu shot on Monday afternoon, and I’m feeling a bit gross this afternoon. Right on schedule! Based on experience, I’ll feel fine again tomorrow morning.

I’ve had the flu before and remember what it’s like. I would MUCH rather feel a bit gross for a day than have the full-on flu.

One of my biggest ongoing self-work projects is to shake off the irony and embrace sincerity. I’ve still got a lot of work, but I’m noticeably making progress and it’s wonderful.
to be honest if we wanna dive REALLY deep, the answer is obvious: it has more to do with the ones doubting the possibility of sincerity. it is very difficult to fathom someones sincerity if youve slathered yourself in irony for ages and ages. this is not intended as a slight. i feel for those buds

Taking jobs from Americans? Yeah, because SO MANY Americans are lining up early at Home Depot for under the table day labor gigs, or signing up to get paid piece rate for picking fruit, or to do childcare, or housekeeping work, or...
Bovino: "Whether they were criminals or individuals that were taking jobs from Americans -- you name it, that's what they were doing. And I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We're gonna go even harder on the streets. If he releases those 650, we're gonna apprehend 1,650 on the streets of Chicago."

It’s somehow not terribly surprising that a large number of mass layoffs in Alabama didn’t provide timely WARN notices.
The WARN Act requires employers with at least 100 full-time workers to provide at least 60 days’ notice ahead of a mass layoff or plant closure impacting 50 or more employees.

In today's installment of 'pleasing symmetries', my little coffee maker's time-since-brew showed 1:43 when I got my last cup of decaf, and when I turned it off the time was 3:41. I love the little happy symmetries like that just happen like that.
