When the Senate confirmed Hegseth, it had good information that he was an emotionally dysregulated drunk who had committed a horrific sexual assault. The war crimes are on every member who voted for him knowing exactly who he is.

Again, notice how NONE of us on here are calling Pritzker the Great Khan of the Midwest anymore. It's because he's a fucking failure as governor. I hate him so much now.
Cut state funding for Northwestern University and Hospital NOW @govpritzker.illinois.gov otherwise we will make sure you never become the Dem presidential nominee anytime in the future. Do your damn job.
The legal, media, and academic institutions capitulating to an authoritarian ordering payments for favorable treatment are damning themselves to irrelevance. They are destroying their institutions. They will be — and should be — shunned for failing in their most basic purposes for existing.

The only reason to have the military in D.C. is to increase tensions and antagonize people to the point they over-react, creating "justification" for increasing crackdowns on innocent people. It's all a con.

The judge should order everyone involved to be held in contempt *behind bars* until Belloza is returned to her home.
Beyond depraved: "Hours after her detainment, court documents obtained by ABC News show that a federal judge ordered the government not to remove the 19-year-old from the U.S. and not to transfer her outside of Massachusetts. But Lopez Belloza was deported to Honduras the next day."

Honestly think a lot of people deserve the indignity of being relieved of command, discharged UOTHC, and then indicted as civilians
i think we have to throw everyone involved in this down to the seal officer in charge in prison for war crimes honestly
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

a market-based system should work like this: corporations should try to grow as much as possible. the state should put big road blocks up to ensure that growth isn't coming by e.g. poisoning people. if corporations grow sufficiently large anyway, the state should break them up or absorb them.

There's this modern meme about how every death in war is a war crime.

And here we have Pete just fucking do one. Just dudes clinging to a fucking raft of boat debris in the middle of the ocean hundreds of miles from shore.

And they just fucking did it. Pete told them to.

Personally I prefer the latter option vis-à-vis the current family in power but that's just me
We know this is a bid for authoritarian governance and at this point it is clear it is failing

We know in other countries, such failures generally end with "and then he fled to Russia" or "and then he went to trial" or "and then he and his entire family were murdered."

Why would we be different?

I think I became convinced that most of the United States is an anti-human hellscape when I worked in refugee resettlement. Seeing that Afghan family who went from rural Kandahar to the Red Roof Inn off the interstate. The look on their faces when I dropped them off. Dark fucking shit.
Listen, I was there when the first afghans evacuees got off the plane at Dulles in late July 2021. But a few months later we had nice liberals in the community asking us if they could host a Ukrainian family. "What about Afghan or Congolese?"

"Oh, no thanks"

Racist fucking country, man

After working with hundreds of young afghans attempting to rebuild their lives in the US, all I can say is that I'm surprised their suffering hasn't gotten national attention sooner. I know a dozen guys with almost identical stories to Rahmanullah. We've fucked them constantly since summer 2021.

Unfortunately in America we have essentially the worst of all possible worlds. commercial actors take massive societal risks with no skin in the game because they know the government will bail them out and the government views its job as protecting commercial actors from consumer demand fluctuation

this is why very important things that are not subject to a wide scale of consumer preferences should not be within the purview of commercial actors. for instance, health coverage
the job of commercial actors is to take risks in allocating resources with the societal hope that doing so creates more efficient processes and meets a broader set of consumer preferences. the job of the government is to control the types of risks those actors can take so they don't kill/maim us all

Businesses that fail must cease to exist. If a business is so important that it cannot cease to exist without society collapsing, that business should have been broken up or socialized substantially earlier than the point of failure. but in America, businesses can't fail, they can only be failed.

I don't like to be an attendance scold, esp because my school has a high % of commuter students. But my world history course regularly has 1/4 of the students absent for any given class. Some students have turned almost none of their assigments in. I do not understand how they think they will pass.
We're seeing possibly the worst attendance in history. Even in creative writing classes, where students generally want to participate and have their voice heard--they're not showing up, ignoring guidelines and feedback, and either describing expectations as "unclear" or simply refusing to comply.

There is no constitutionally legitimate scenario in which we are being de facto governed by the White House Deputy Chief of Staff using a half-dead president as his sock puppet. We went out of our way to amend the Constitution on precisely this point.
