This got me thinking about whether Sellers is right about this because the predominant and operative view of the law is that he definitely is wrong (see footnotes 35 and 36 of the attached), but Nathan Chapman has a lot of work on why, at least at the founding, this was not the case.

The judge should order everyone involved to be held in contempt *behind bars* until Belloza is returned to her home.
Beyond depraved: "Hours after her detainment, court documents obtained by ABC News show that a federal judge ordered the government not to remove the 19-year-old from the U.S. and not to transfer her outside of Massachusetts. But Lopez Belloza was deported to Honduras the next day."

Lotta people pointing out this is a fundamentally selfish move in that he’s only pissed now cause it’s about his own family, and while this is correct, it’s also the overwhelming mode of interaction with politics. Most people care about stuff because it hits them. You gotta work with that

Ukraine doing an anti-corruption sweep in the middle of a hot war on its own territory is also evidence that the fortress communism excuse that governments can be excused for their corruption or authoritarianism because of the looming threat of imperial capitalist powers is bullshit
Shoutout to concerned Ukrainian citizens

Historian’s Assistant: Yeah boss I named it real horny just like you asked

Every time I read an FDR speech it breaks my heart to see someone who assumes his audience is actually capable of understanding complex ideas and interested in learning more.
We have got to make politics intellectual again. It is the only way that societies thrive is when politicians have the capability to actually think and reflect deeply:

We literally executed Germans after the war for doing what Bradley and everyone else involved did, and the Germans had a better justification (u-boat plausibly being targeted based on info provided by survivors vs.......whatever the hell pete was worried about here)
Given the justification was in part because they might communicate with someone, pete could ask Heinz-Wilhelm Eck and his XO what the law of armed conflict says about that, except oops, the allies shot them dead in 1945 after a trial
WaPo with reporting that Pete gave an explicit order to JSOC during the first strike post impact to immediately follow up in order to, and I quote, "kill them all"

So I'm pretty sure a three star knows that an order to strike alleged combatants who are hors de combat is facially illegal, in case anyone's still having any hangups on whether Bradley needs to be in the dock after this

In retrospect giving law students 3 drinks at every social function and then hosting events on dealing with alcoholism was kind of ironic
The work party gave out free champagne on arrival and then gave us all SIX drink tickets which could be used on anything including cocktails and some of my coworkers still did a pre drink. I gave 5 of my tickets away because I don’t need my coworkers to see professor karen do the splits

Clean power growth is now covering all new global demand. Solar and wind generated 635 TWh in the first nine months of this year, exceeding the 603 TWh rise in global electricity demand, and holding fossil generation flat for the year. buff.ly/zRmwAmg

Q3 Global Power Report: No fossil fuel growth expected in 2025 | Ember
Solar and wind power grew fast enough to keep up with rising electricity demand in the first three quarters of 2025, as fossil fuel growth should be stagnated. Ember forecasts no growth for fossil…

Little known story the Puritans didn't go to the colonies first (because that would be nuts). They went to nearby Holland, and were not persecuted there! They just left because the Dutch were offensive what with their not being Puritans.
how about, the puritans didn't flee religious persecution, they fled so they could persecute other people for their religion.

one of the least sympathetic microgenres of post is, "I financed an extremely expensive truck at fairly normal APRs and am paying HOW MUCH in interest?!"

So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

my takeaway from climate week nyc is that "climate storytelling" is a little too much "we must reimagine our deepest souls in relationship to mother nature and the moral abyss of the polycrisis into which we must now stare" and not enough "ok but get a heat pump"

I do think it's kinda ironic that a large thrust of the Clinton 2016 primary campaign was saying that you needed to Listen To Black Women by voting for the candidate supported by most black women (which, yeah! Hillary Clinton was!) and a lot of people on the left pointed out that this was nonsense.
I don't know it is "discredits social justice" exactly but you know, you *know* that every time it happens in its most lurid forms you've pushed a wavering conservative back into the fold.
this kind of "throw every random social justice accusation at the wall and see what sticks" approach actually just discredits social justice. come on. let's do better
