There is a bit of trolling in this post.

But there is reality too — reality we should confront.

Trump is now continuing to MAGAfy the judiciary, and he’s doing it with the votes of Senate Democrats. What’s the plan to confront that? To fix it?
I think Republicans will probably hold the senate and Trump will be free to continue MAGAfying the judiciary — don’t seem that fucked to me

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet but Noah Smith now apparently thinks South Asians (like the Ugandan-Indian Zohran Mamdani) are using anti-Zionism as an inter-diaspora social bludgeon in order to move up the American cultural strata.

Literally why I support single payer. I have heard the bigger picture economic/health pitch and find it convincing, but if I’m being honest I am primarily motivated by never having to learn about the different kinds of coverage plans and provider networks ever again
This is the same quagmire Rs got stuck in during Trump I. Free market = better, European-style = bad, taxes = bad. The idea that people might just want the government to take care of something so they're not on the phone for months getting fucked over does not compute.
Putting the deafening sexism aside, i still don’t understand this weird US insurance concept that you can choose ahead of time what ills and accidents your family is going to get hit by, and how much you want to pay for it… that’s literally not how life works.

“Progslop” is the assertion southern white people would vote for socialists if they heard their message about universal healthcare.

“Modslop” is the assertion Dems could win southern white people if they spent their whole campaigns reacting to Republican talking points.

I spend a lot of time on the internet and consider myself to be politically aware and engaged relative to the median American and I have no idea what the fuck the President is talking about when he brings up Joe Biden’s autopen. Baffling, could be a completely made up word as far as I know

That’s cool. I know someone who was going to suck it up and vote for Kamala even though they disagreed with her pro-apartheid politics but changed their mind few days beforehand when they watched a very real video of the Israelis burning a teenager alive with an incendiary bomb.
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

Unlike the thousands of children awaiting medical evacuation from Gaza, Adam was lucky to find a caring host family while getting a prosthetic leg.

This settlement never should have happened. Universities have a duty to defend academic freedom and the pursuit of truth, not bend to political pressure from Trump or anyone else.

I took part in the NU encampments as a student.
We must keep calling out those that cave to the Trump Admin, and the latest is Northwestern.

As part of their "deal," NU will pay $75 million, stop vital research, renege on agreements with its students over the war in Gaza, and more.

Throwing your students under the bus to please Trump. Shameful.

We are encouraging all of our members, neighbors, and friends to contact Representative Kelly Cassidy (HD-14) and ask her to join her Democratic caucus colleagues in co-sponsoring HB 2723. It is time for Illinois to meet Illinoisans where they are at and repeal this extremist law!

Even worse, the law applies to territories that Israel occupies, meaning that companies can miss out on investment because they won’t do business in illegal West Bank settlements.

Fortunately, legislation was filed to reverse this extremist policy just this year.

Did you know that Illinois has an extremist pro-Israel law on the books? In 2015 Republican Governor Bruce Rauner signed a bill that would make it illegal for Springfield to invest pension funds in any company that refuses to do business in Israel for any reason, even for humanitarian ones.

Went back to read some of the April/May 2023 commentary about this and while it’s cope (“maybe the budget just won’t increase” etc) you can kind of excuse it because everyone was on a victory high. Can’t really do that about what people were saying about United Working Families though lol
People who supported the 2023 campaign and who are getting mad at the CPD line should take a long hard look in the mirror. I thought he was very clear when he said he wouldn’t defund the dept. When I went out and knocked doors for him in Edgewater I would straight up quote him as saying he wouldn’t
Johnson vows to veto any budget that includes a property tax increase or makes cuts to the proposed $2.1 billion for the Chicago Police Department.

CONTEXT: No one has seriously proposed either.

Barely deserves being commented on because everyone who says so is obviously full of shit, but Louisiana has a Republican trifecta in its state house and New Orleans is not a sanctuary city and they’re still doing this anyway. Ray Lopez’s collaboration strategy does not work
"The operation dubbed “Swamp Sweep,” which aims to arrest 5,000 people, is centered in liberal New Orleans and is the latest federal immigration enforcement operation to target a Democratic-run city as President Trump’s administration pursues its mass deportation agenda."
A federal immigration crackdown is coming to New Orleans. Here's what to know
About 250 federal border agents plan to begin a months-long immigration crackdown in southeast Louisiana, centered in New Orleans, and into Mississippi dubbed 'Swamp Sweep.'
