My wife got a picture of the band for our production of Measure for Measure before the show started, when we were just messing around. That’s me on the right on bass.

when I was a young boy dreaming of a career in cartooning, what I really hoped for was to spend somewhere between a quarter and a third of my entire career thinking about the single most stupid and venal man to ever hold office. dreams CAN come true!

He had a joke in his stump speeches about how, if he were to walk on water, the headlines the next day would read “Jesse Jackson Can’t Swim”
How many of the media outlets eulogizing Rev. Jesse Jackson today spent decades trying to undermine his work & turn him into a punchline?

Then Former Resident Evil Merchant tells us about his hustles AND grinds before crooner Lloyd Martin delights us with some songs. Plus, a round of “Would You Rather?” which we play every week!

So to be intellectually consistent, we should allow every voter to carry military grade firearms, and have the right to murder anyone who drives their car close to them.
Emmer: "Another reform they claim they want is they want ICE agents to identify themselves, to show identification. But they don't want identification for voters in elections. I mean, this stuff is just intellectually inconsistent."

Today’s movie: Train Dreams. Beautifully filmed and acted. I was not expecting to need tissues to get through it.

Tonight’s movie: Wuthering Heights (2026). This is not even close to an adaptation of the full book, more like “inspired by” the text. That’s fine! The book was boring! This is a sexy, fun, fully Emerald Fennell version of the story. It looks gorgeous. I had a great time.

American democracy can absolutely withstand a non-legally binding EO about voter ID.

The president does not control state election requirements.

Organizers, activists and operatives are prepared for Republicans to try to mess with election results as they have been for decades.
This may be the most dangerous development of all. It will give Trump fake legal pretext to reject Nov election results. American democracy has like 9 months left.

Tonight’s movie: Slap Shot (1977). Filmed in my hometown and my mom is in one of the crowd shots as people rush into the arena. It’s one of my favorite movies and an all-time classic. No, I will not explain what the deal is with that dog.

given education polarization and MAGA's reliance on low propensity voters, something like the SAVE Act would almost certainly backfire on republicans (i'm reasonably sure senate republicans understand this too)
i'm against barriers to the fanchise but it would be extremely funny if the republicans enact barriers to voting and nuke their voter base
Been toying with the same thought. Pointless barriers to voting pitched as a solution to an imaginary problem are a bad idea in principle, but Republicans seem very sure it will help them on net, and that’s not really obvious to me.

I keep up with a lot of HS friends online and I have met up with a few within the past year. I’m still friends with a guy I’ve known since we were babies in the same play group and he bit me on the nose (I have no memory of this but my mom does).
watching John Green talk about his buddy from high school who is still his friend and I’m curious, is that common for people on here?
