All my recent books went from hardcover to trade paperback and almost all of my backlist in mass market has now migrated to trade. The role of mass market paperbacks is now handled almost entirely by ebooks. I'm okay with this but it is the end of an era.

Last Call for Mass Market Paperbacks
After years of steady sales declines, the format will largely disappear next year.

Kate Elliott, The Witch Roads

A very different fantasy. And very, very good. (Sequel The Nameless Land came out a few months later and was also a candidate for this list.)

If you need a measles jab in the US and can't afford one, hit up Bree's replies. There are people in there volunteering to cover someone else's shot in the name of Fuck Measles.

I got my titers checked in May, and I'm good. If you're not sure, go get yer jabs!
If you are worried this is too big an executive function barrier you can go to a pharmacy and they will probably just jab you. That is what I did.

I'm not saying it's necessarily the right way to do this, that is just how much I am not fucking around with the measles
Go to your doctor and get your measles titers checked to make sure you are still immune and if not get re-vaccinated. It’s more and more likely all of us are going to eventually come in contact with it.

I feel like I'm going crazy trying to explain to people that it is unhealthy to be infected with any virus.
There are no human viruses that are good for you.
All human viral infections are bad for you.
All viral infections are bad for your health.
I don't know why this is so difficult to understand.

I am afraid to inform you that the 'what is a Christmas movie?' discourse has hit the household. #puer posits it has to contain Santa. T'other half is proposing a wuxia-style film about the Council of Nicaea so we can have a wire-fighting St. Nicholas.

If you want to know the time spent from getting a book deal to having the physical book in your hands, I just got back from the same birthday party where, exactly two years ago today, I got the news a publisher was interested in SIDEQUESTED.
I should do a special unboxing process whatever etc etc but no I’m too busy checking printer ratios.

Dang the publisher did a NICE job!!! Spot gloss! Thick ink!

Jesse Hamm had the take to end all takes on children's media. "People who disdain writing ‘just for children’ fail to realize that those children will remember what they read, maybe for the rest of their lives. You’re not writing for permanent children; you’re getting an early start on adults.”

When you have no marketing budget, you can really tell certain patterns with books selling. Like "Oh that's a fan buying up my backlist" or "Oh yeah, those sales came from that Kobo promo" and you can also tell when there's been word of mouth somewhere, esp backlist books.

Wonderful writer needs recommendations!

(see thread up and down for details on her needs)
Anyhow. I am Very Undercaffeinated right now, and about to lose another afternoon doing half of what used to take me about two hours to do, and I'm missing the days when I did all this in hard copy, on paper, with a red pencil.

So Bluesky, I need your best Adobe Reader alternatives. NO AI.
