Got my first bag of potato chips in months. Cracked it open. The first chip out of the bag was... soggy?
The second chip was almost fungal.
Baffled, I explored the bag and discovered AN ENTIRE POTATO. Unsliced, brined, like a wad of seasoning juice. It had survived, and now was juicing the chips.

Hardcover versions of Waverly 5 and 6 have covers now, so that's nice. I am still 2-3 months behind here so that is less nice.

God, all of this. "It took eight months to get this funded!" Okay that's because it took 4-5 months for you to say who was involved. I also found it extremely infantilizing to say "I don't want to name the books and get the authors' hopes up" as if these writers aren't adult professionals.

Waverly 5's hardcover is very close to having a cover (I need to sleep on the composition, do some colour correcting and lights/shadows, painting, etc). I might've figured out why I keep getting stuck at this point in revisions. This would've been great progress...back in November. 🙄

I know why it's easier to mute someone who targets people who unfollow/block, and sometimes the only way to remain cordial with a peer is to not know what they're saying on social media while still seeming to follow them, but a timer would be a great reminder to check in.

This happened with Julie Butcher (not the one here, Jim's sister; writer Twitter circa 2009 know who I'm talking about). Tons of people started finding her kind of annoying when 2016/2017 rolled around and didn't realize she'd gone full MAGA/TERF/antivaxxer by 2020.

I would really like that option on accounts. I try to remember to go through my mute list periodically and evaluate if someone should stay muted or not, but I'm an out-of-sight-out-of-mind person. Sometimes I just need a break, that's normal! A timer would be perfect so I can be reminded they exist.

"Everyone had her muted so they had no idea this was going on" is a thing I keep hearing and this is why I think account muting should have an optional timer like words and hashtags do. Some words I permanently mute but a lot I do timers, to have peace for a week when overwhelmed then come back.

For me, it's a large pattern of multiple issues. Calling out people for the oddest things, changing stories constantly, broke but constantly travelling "for the hugs", etc etc.

The panic-inducing article going around about Wikimedia licensing AI has a misleading headline and approach. What's been agreed on is limited access, and required payment for scraping. More in the thread:
Sure. AI companies have ALWAYS been training their models on Wikipedia content, which under the free and open access model is available to anyone — including AI companies. Agreements like these require AI companies to limit and offset the strain they place on Wikimedia infrastructure.
